Air Arms S500 vs S510

Well I originally bought a Synrod with a LW barrel, but it never shipped so I canceled the order and am now expecting an Air Arms S500 in a walnut stock for 700$. I hear that these are some of the most accurate rifles on the market. Anyways, what’s the difference between the S510 and the S500 other than that the S500 is a single shot?

also what would be the best pellet to start off with? And would I need a moderator and a regulator?

Thanks, PlinkForFun

Congrats you just stepped up to the next level of quality here with the AA S500 only difference is the single shot. Do you know if it's regulated? They do have a regulator option. Actually even if you're is not regulated those AA have a very good shot curve if you just fill to 2750-2800psi if it's not regulated and go shoot 30 shots then refill again. No tinkering needed. Go shoot it first then decide if you need an additional LDC for it. They already come with match grade Lothar Walter barrels and should be pellet friendly and be able to shoot even the cheap Wal-Mart Crosman Premier Hollowpoints accurately. You may be lucky enough to not even need to clean the barrel that often too. I'm sure other AA 500-510 series owners can chime in. Yo!

Yeah! I sure am excited to get my hands on an AA PCP. I was thinking about a regulator but wasn’t sure if what exactly I needed to do. I also hear that if you put a regulator on it you can actually fill the cylinder much higher than AA actually states, like up to 300 bar, because the hammer and something else are designed for pressures like 200 bar? Not sure but it’s what Matt Dubber said on a video of his. Anyone know if that’s actually true? (Not that I would even think about doing this to such a beautiful air rifle)

If regulated than the valve will be at the regulated pressure set point. I would NOT fill beyond recommended fill pressure because if the regulator fails your valve will have full fill pressure to it. Don’t know about what Matt D says, most internal regulators are only rated for 250 bar. I’m sure the gun would handle the higher pressure if the reg were to fail but why push it? Some people will fill a 200 bar gun to 3200 psi but not 250 or 300 bar.

Good to know. Definitely will not try to over fill the cylinder.

Also has anyone tried using the 17gr NSA slugs in the S500 unregulated?

And if so, what diameter should I use? .2165 or .2175?

I had a S510, and it was a very good rifle. I recently bought a Weihrauch HW100, and I believe those two rifles may be the best values in the precision air gun market. The AA is very English, and the HW very German, but both are excellent rifles. I would choose the single shot also if I were buying this rifle again. I had no problems with the S510 magazine system, but I didn't much like the design. I'm sure you will enjoy your new S500.

Don't fill it higher than the pressure than the pressure that is indicated on the cylinder cylinder.

If you fill it tot 300 bar, there is a change that you need a new cilinder, it will flare the ende and blow off.

Most regulator manufacturers also say that you need to use the factory pressure .

For AA that is 250bar for factory regulated models and 200bar for non regulated and aftermarket.

They are available in .177.

Can you post a link? I cant find any in 177 for 700-800 price range

Don't think you will find any at that price, but Pyramyd has them.

You are right PA has them but only in .22. And no option for different calibers.

If they were in 177 i would take

I just looked, and PA has both the S500 and S510 in .177, in stock.

What’s different from the 800 regulated S500 and the 700$ unregulated one? Why can the regulated one be filled to 3600psi and the other one only to 2900? Are there parts differences other than the other one has a regulator?

difference is regulator between 700 and 800 ones.

regulator models can be filled to higher pressur because they regulate that high pressure and give us needed pressure into plenum while unregulated one has spike. its difficult for unregulated gun to open valve at high pressure and therefore it gives us very low power compared to as called sweet spot!
