Air Arms S500 or S510

I'm stuck in a rut about my decision for my first PCP rifle, a lot of people on here say that these two guns are very accurate and pack enough punch for rabbits and squirrels. I know that the S510 comes with a 10-shot mag but I grew up loading springers all my life so I'm no stranger to single load, what would be the major differences between these two be?

I've read about these guns from top to bottom and I'm still having a hard time making a decision, and watched multiple videos about the guns.

The 510 has a housing bolted onto the side that allows the magazine to be inserted.

The 500 doesn't have the housing on the side.

In my opinion, your major decision is whether you want single shot or a magazine. Personally, I think the magazine housing in unattractive, detracting the looks/line of the rifle. At a minimum, the 400/500 Air Arms rifles require, at least, a regulator. I think the single shot 500 is a nice looking rifle, something that a person would enjoy looking at, though as the design of both is quite simple I think you can get a more technologically advanced/value for money rifle elsewhere.

I'm in the process of selling my S500 FAC Extra Superlite in poplar wood and getting a walnut S510 Carbine. you won't be dissapointed in the single shot if you go that direction. Loading is very easy with plenty of room at the breech. Mine was getting 33-34 at 875-880fps at 3% and under spread. I was just wanting to try a carbine and go with a LDC which th gun I'm getting already has. Going with the S500 and poplar you can also save a couple hundred dollars allowing for maybe a nicer scope etc. The fit and finish on the AA's is top notch and you won't be disappointed in either.

Cookie I thought about going better but I grew up a springer and moving up to a PCP is gonna be big change in many things. So I figured start small add a new gun to my collection and start from there, so I can see what I want and need. Thanks for the difference in the two, when I looked online neither said anything different from the other so I was a little confused.

FP, if willing to buy used ( I've owned something over 100 used airguns and had only one issue) , and the looks don't override everything else, consider an AA400 or 410 bolt action. At any given power level the older 16mm shrouded version is quitter than the newer 20mm sidelever. "I" don't care about that but many do and I admit it gets you an extra shot at a squirrel sometimes. The trigger on the older models is SO much better. Along with putting the safety ON the trigger blade - no safety on the older one-on the sidelever model it simply isn't the same unit.

You can't go wrong with either, it's the same gun depending on if you need a magazine or not.

I happen to be that lucky buyer of Jim's S500. I was debating between S500 and S510 like you, but looking at the shot strings and 50 yard group photos from Jim, I am sold on his S500. I will mainly use it for backyard plinking, and having the ability to adjust the power on the fly is great. Single shot is no biggie for me.

If you are gonna walk around in the woods to hunt with this rifle, I think having a magazine would be beneficial so you don't have to carry a tin of pellets around with you all the time.

I think RCmachine sells the single shot tray for the S-510. So, you could go for the 510 and then a SS tray and have both options.
I have the SS tray on my 510 and it works very nicely. The pellets roll to right where they need to be. It's also made from metal so, it will withstand some abuse.
Good choice either way! Good luck with your purchase!

Pete, here's a photo of my Regal XL 22 FAC. The barrel and shroud looks kinda fat but it's just the way the photo came out. AZCCJ has one for sale on the third page of the classifieds. His is a Huntsman Classic XL which means it has the longer air tube. I don't know if it has the "Sling shot hammer" though. Maybe someone will chime in on the difference. It appears to be a very nice gun also.

I
greatly appreciate those fellows who have run the field letting us know their experiences with different rifles. Most here simply do not have the funds to do so. So I encourage those who have the experience to let us know your thoughts and findings.
