Air Arms Pro Sport Past & Present ( and sorry Nitrocrushr this was long overdue)

First of all, I would like to apologize to NitroCrushr and anyone else who may have been waiting on my "review" of NitroCrushr (NC for now) tuned Pro Sport. Honestly I feel selfish, because I have been doing nothing aside from visiting family, renewing relationships and you guessed it...shooting the heck out of my PS.

Well before my PS had got sent to NC, I was just shooting it. Honestly it was a disappointment. I had only been shooting it maybe a 100 times or so and I know all the “you should shoot a tin out of it” and “don’t do nothing, just shoot it and let it break in” hoopla, but in my opinion one shouldn’t have to. Especially when you pay $800 for a piece of British machinery. But when cocking it was very “gritty” sounding and feeling. As did the trigger. It felt like it was catching in certain places aside from the obvious 1st and 2nd stages. And to me, that is unacceptable.

I had seen NC’s post on all of his TX & PS tunes and rebuilds and for those of you who seen his post, you know what I mean. Polished cocking arms, replacement of compression tube due to low buttons, the tapping a new screw hole in the compression tube where the cocking arm attaches to, so on and so on. And the resulting accuracy due to his love and attention. So I said “I got to contact this man”. He is super smart and has vast knowledge of these platforms. So he walked me through getting my trigger right and suggested that I should go with a 12ft/lb. spring from JM, along with suggested piston and breach seals as well as fitted guide and top hat from Mr. Motorhead. I didn’t have the money to get the said parts or get what I needed to get done, so for the time being, I just had to let her be.

So I opened it up and cleaned it from all the factory greases and lubes. Polished the spring ends better. I opened up the trigger housing and polished the sears and any surfaces that touched. I then applied Moly 60 to all metal to metal contacting surfaces. Put it back together and it still felt horrible. Now don’t get me wrong, it was accurate but the whole experience of an expensive rifle, I wasn’t feeling/experiencing. And I had to fight hard for that accuracy to. To me this is a no no.

So I opened her back up again and made a poor man’s piston sleeve. Yes, I cut a piece of an aluminum can and fitted it inside the piston, and you know what? No more gritty cocking sound and feel. I was satisfied, that is until rereading NC’s post and salivating over them.

Well I had to go away for about 6 months and my girlfriend decided to do me a solid and contacted NC and off went my PS. I honestly had no idea that this was going down but when I came home, I seen a long cardboard box sitting in the corner. I really thought she bought me a CZ452 Military Trainer in .22lr. I checked the box and it was empty. I’m like hey!??? And I see my PS in a opened rifle case. I’m like I don’t remember it being this way and that is when she sprung the surprise on me. She contacted Steve, she sent my rifle out to him. And this is what was accomplished.
She is shooting 785fps w/JSB 8.4 and 825fps w/JSB 7.87. All other pellets, I have no idea, lol

1) A QX4600 and the OEM spring was sent to Motorhead and a spring guide and top hat were made for it. And NC put whatever sized spacers for preload (sorry Steve for not knowing the exact size and amount that went into making her a superb 12ft/lb. rifle) to make it a 12ft/lbs. He also had the QX spring preset I believe. That was to eliminate the break in time.
2) He polished all of her aluminum to an impressive shine. And those rough edges??? No more, lol
3) He polished and lapped my barrel
4) Replaced my compression tube due to basically non existent buttons.
5) Removed all sloppy play
6) Took apart my trigger and honestly it’s a "dang" awesome feeling trigger. Light but not to light, literally just right
7) He replaced my piston and breach seals with I believe JM seals

He stained/sealed my walnut stock. Not glossy and not super dull, but just right. You would think the man is a mind reader.

Seriously. Everything that I was worried about, everything that I had a issue with was addressed.
Now again I know about the break in period but that wasn’t needed due to the QX spring being preset by JM. And man oh man, I tried JSB 7.87gr, JSB 8.44gr, AA 8.4gr, CPL 7.9gr brown box, AA 10.34, H&N Sniper Mediums with some H&N FTT 4.51mm and 4.52mm and headed to the railroad tracks with my bucket, my shooting sticks and a milk crate then set out to 50yds Below are the pic links. Heck, Steve even had to tell me to use imgur to get these pics to all of you.

Listen members and listen carefully. If you have any Air Arms springs and from what I have been seeing and reading, any HW’s and you want to experience how a fine German or English springer is supposed to feel like. Supposed to shoot like. Supposed to be like, please ask him for his input. Or even better yet. Ask him how much would it cost for his tune and I swear on everything I love, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

CPL 7.9gr brown box. Now mind you, These are the 1st ten shots I shot that day in 97degree +/- heat. Although I was in the shade, I was still sweating like someone going to jail. Notice how nice the 1st 5 shots in the center circle are. Then the gun and myself started to warm up. Well I was beyond warm so the drop was the rifle and the spread out was me

Now please let me clear up my abbreviations. 2F= 2 fingers away from TG (trigger guard); 4F= 4 fingers; SS= Stock Screw; TG=trigger guard and so forth
