Air Arms Galahad

"rockymtbiker"According to one post I've read Kalibrgun now owns RAR so my hope is that they will simply manufacture it themselves. One of the ironies in this whole matter is that much of the CDC work for the prototypes was done in the US and Japan. If Kalibrgun has decided to manufacture the VL-12 themselves then I would expect them to have one of the prototypes at their booth Thursday. Got a message from Petr last week saying that he has been told they will arrive by the end of the summer. Like so many things in the airgun industry these days, I consider it a possibility only until I actually see the product.

I agree with you regarding the Ultra RM (thanks again, Michael). If I had a 5 lb Cricket I think I would give it a try.

Another inexpensive option is the Tasco 2.5-10x AO. It only weighs 19.5 oz and I've had one on my Condor for several years and it's still performing well. But again, if your Cricket only weighs 5 lbs, I think it deserves the lightest scope possible.
When was the post from (about Kalibrgun owning RAR)? It must be a purchase in the last month as they definitely didn't own them at Christmas time. There was obviously some relationship as Kalibrgun were listed as the Russian contact on the RAR site but they didn't own them.

This is what Kalibrgun said on Jan 13th when I asked about the RAR bullpups:

I am familiar with the rifle You linked, but practical dealership never took place. It is almostimpossible to get in touch with the producer and as far as I know only few pieces were produced. I have personally seen three in our factory. Handling is very good and the overallcraftmanship seemed fine to me, but I did not have the possibility of test shooting it. The message about Kalibrgun buying RAR was posted February 18th on TAG, so I suppose there was enough time between Marek's response for something to have happened. And it's obvious that someone is communicating with Petr and that they have communicated with him fairly recently.

As I've noted previously, I've become less and less enamored with the airgun industry in general, so I'm not holding my breath. Poor communication to their customers, and misinformation when they do, seem to be ubiquitous in the industry. Yes, I think that it's possible that Kalibrgun has purchased RAR and is building the VL-12. And the fact that Kalibrgun has already posted pics and specs on the "Plast 2" Cricket indicates that at least one airgun manufacturer has finally realized that perhaps taking weight off of their bullpup designs might be a good idea. But as you can see from RAR's site, the VL-12 was selling in Russia for less than $600, so care to hypothesize what the price will be here if it does appear? I am curious to see what emerges at IWA Friday but my curiosity is tempered by my perception that none of the manufacturers and retailers have much commitment to customer service or honesty.

The AA Galahad is on the Pyramyd Air website now with what I guess is the final specs. It looks like they did respond to people's concerns over the weight as there is a carbine version for sale which is a pound lighter. They are also offering both models without the moderator which is an idea that I am not a fan of. I would prefer an option with lighter weight materials instead.

It is $1700 with the Walnut stock which seems high to me considering the other options which are more powerful, lighter and apparently more asthetically pleasing to many of us.

Savings some weight with a better choice of materials would be preferable to me over cutting barrel length and losing features . I finished making my first carbon fiber Cricket stocks and an identical looking design weighs just 14ounces compared to just under 3lb for the original plastic one. I also made one that comes in at 9 ounces with a standard AR (A2) grip attached. If I can do it at home, they could easily make one for a $1700 gun.

We seem to have missed some of the innovation from the firearms like carbon fiber wrapped barrels and stockless designs. There is plenty of additional opportunities for weight savings and we need them with pcp guns. Making them balanced is certainly important fbut we still have to carry these things for a day in the woods...

I do like the vertical cocking lever idea though and if you are fan of wood, it looks like they use nice Walnut on their premium stock (from what I can tell). I can see this appealing to a certain type of enthusiast. I prefer tactical lightweight bullpups so I'm obviously not their intended market.

btw Michael, thanks for the scope recommendation. I bought one and I'm very happy with it. The weight saving makes a difference that is more noticeable than I would have thought.

I agree wholeheartedly, Zebra. I've given up on the airgun industry and rarely visit this or any other airgun site any more.

Would add my thanks for the scope recommendation, Michael; I also ordered one for my Ruger 10/22 w/skeletonized laminate stock, Volquartsen trigger and Gemtech integrally suppressed barrel. It now weighs less than 5 lbs, produces 97-107 ft-lbs, and is as quiet as my modded Marauder with subsonic ammo. :)
