Affordable Regulated PCP Pistol options

So are you looking for a rifle or pistol? and what’s your price range? First we need to figure out what you consider “affordable”. 
the Diana storm rider is going to be probably the cheapest option with an add on regulator made specifically for it. As you get higher in price, more options become available, but remember, just because it’s regulated, doesn’t mean it’s better. There are many “budget” guns that do better unregulated against their regulated counterparts. One brand being Kral. They act like regulated guns with their huge flat shot strings. 

The Prods work for me and have never needed a regulator but I believe they are available.

artemis pp700 is really great pistol. swap original regulator with huma and done

it works with both but the pistol only has 1 gauge ... the rifle can utilise the pistol gauge so have 2 , both a fill gauge and regulated pressure gauge ...

I have a Diana Bandit with a Huma regulator installed. It works great The pistol is $179 and the regulator around $100 depending on the Euro to $ exchange rate. The Bandit is great for plinking but that is about it. It is great for shooting cans etc The carbine kit makes a great carbine for shooting cans Their are those who have re-engineered their bandits to shoot very decent groups If you are inclined, you may get it to group well for you

If you are looking for something you can use for hunting and pest control, right out of the box, you will need to come up in price to around $550 and pick up a Prod, Artemis, or Silhouette.

You get what you pay for. I have the carbine conversion kit for it, but have taken it off. I bought a WEIHRAUCH HW44 and rarely shoot the Bandit If you want additional info, PM me.

What caliber?

Take a look at the Kral NP03. 400.00. your choice of .177, .22 or .25. it has a vastly superior shot count and carbine format compared to the P-rod.

Do you think installing the regulator was worth it on the Bandit? I'm a bit on the fence as there's not much of a plenum after the reg and was wondering if it was worth it.

I like PP750 so much that I added a PP700 as well, both in .22

Honestly either one of these are a much better gun than the Bandit is.

As for the bandit/pp800, I would not recommend using a regulator with one. My unregulated .25 shoots quite well. But I also took a lot of time tuning it and testing pellets. My .177 is regulated, but it took a lot of work and modification to get any sort of shot count. Putting a regulator in the air tube reduces the useable volume by A LOT. I modified my regulator to not use a plenum, freeing up some air tube volume. I estimate about 35cc now, down from 50cc without regulator. .177 gets 50 shots at 650fps. But would have been a whole lot less had I not modified it.

FYI I could only get something like 780fps with the regulator and plenum. Without regulator, and unmodified I got 850fps peak, but there was a significant bellcurve, which I'm sure I could have flattened the curve but would have wound up around 700fps with the way I would have tuned it, which is quite fast still. 650fps was actually my target, and it's still enough to take grey squirrel out to 25 yards at least, maybe more. I have only take one with it, and mainly use it for targets and plinking. (rotary magazine makes it a lot of fun)

Here is a group from the .25 unregulated with 1 shot I pulled @ 20 yards. It shoots about 8 shots quite accurately from 625-700fps. You can shoot upwards of 16 shots total but need to lob them and use holdover (500-600fps). Still a lot of fun like that too.



Here is the modified valve body that I cut an oring groove into the face of to seal directly to the regulator instead of using the plenum and oring grooves on it to seal the two. I cut that by hand. I also cut it down some to decrease it's overall mass, allowing slightly more regulated air to be stored in it.

So yeah, I’d go with what others have said. The pp700 is awesome, I had the 750, and it was nice having the magazine, but didn’t have the accuracy of the 700. Not to mention the option of easily swapping barrels on the 700 from .177 to .22. The prod is very nice also with a serious aftermarket following, but not regulated from the factory, and not in stock anywhere (although there’s one in the classifieds right now). I have the leshiy classic myself. It’s built like a tank, and accurate as all get out, but comes with a price! Not what I would call budget. The pp750 put me down that rabbit hole though, and now I’m looking into the leshiy 2. Lol. It never ends.

Diana is artemis, artemis is SPA. PP800 is a bandit, pp700, 750 are all made by the same MFG. My recommendation if you are worried is pick the one you like and wait till you find a known good one from a member here

I got my pp800 from Wes @ airgunarcheryfun just keep in mind a lot of guns sold there are limited to 500fps, but some are offered in full power configuration

As said above, Diana has spa/Artemis make the guns for them. There is a “barrel lottery” that is spoken of, but mostly in the larger barreled guns like the bull pups, and rifles. The pistols tend to be better. Buy from a reputable dealer, and you won’t have troubles with issues you may experience. Again, as said above, airgunarcheryfun out of Canada is pretty knowledgeable about these Artemis guns, and krale in the Netherlands also has a good following. 

First. Forget affordable...... 

I wanted the same in a new FX Ranchero .22. I wanted it regulated, with a higher shot count and of course - more velocity.
My local blacksmith, Emil Krogh Jota took the challenge, and contacted the FX factory in Sweden. FX wanted to play, so the solution was to install:
-A FX Revolution barrell
-A FX Gladiator cylinder
-And of course, a regulator
Steve Corcoran made a stock for it, but in the end - this beast suited the black laminate better. 

The outcome:
-24 regulated shots pr fill, 27 ftp (full power setting)
-19 ftp on medium power setting
-12 ftp on low power setting
No problem shooting small beer cans at 100 m. (Have to use a bipod for this, "no free hand" at that distances) Very satisfying to do this with a pistol.
