Hi Everybody, I've never been on a forum before, so not really sure how this works. I know this review was on the ASP 20 .177 cal, but I have an ASP 20 .22 cal which is my second air rifle, but my first really good one. Anyway, I've watched every review on the ASP 20 I can find. My problem is some pellets like the Sig Sauer WRAITHs .22 cal 5.5 mm head size, the H&N Baracuda Match .22 cal 21.14 gr 5.5 mm head size and the Crossman Premier Domed Ultra Magnum .22 cal 14.3 gr 5.5 mm head size, don't just slide into the breach, the skirts are to wide, they have to be forced down into the breach, and I can't just push them in with my fingers, I need something hard to push them in with. I also have JSB Exact Jumbos that work pretty good and shoot well. On the Pymaryd Air Review they shot the Baracuda Match & Sig Sauer Pellets in the .22 cal ASP 20 with good results and didn't have any problems with them. Has anybody had a trouble like this with any pellet rifle you have had, and if so ant fixes? I do like the AEAC reviews, Hhe does such a good job, and covers everything.

Mr. Artemissix,

If you can’t seat any .22 pellet you’ve tried with a thumb or forefinger, then the ASP20 chamber/barrel bore is definitely a few thousandths too tight. Now it makes a difference though if it’s tight at the head or overly tight only at seating the skirt flush.

Perfection would be a great thing but rarely seen in barrel & pellet match up. You wrote you have to use something hard to seat the pellet. That’s not a uncommon issue but the important thing is to seat it in the bore straight & to a consistent depth. I use old archery brass sight pins. You simply want to just have the skirt flush or JUST be able to see that skirt is just engaged In rifling.

The brass pins have fine adjustments & locking screws or knurled knobs. You grind the 0.019” pin sight off to a rounded brass point just thin enough to sit in skirts base. You don’t want it pointy or too thick as to flare pellets skirt. Once that’s done adjust your seatings, lock it down & then you have a consistent seating depth tool with a flat brass bushing that will rest on breech block barrel seal.

Hope this helps as it can be hard to seat some pellets. I use other pellets. It’s easy for me to load a break barrel & know right away if it’ll be a good pellet by how it feels when loading. If it’s really hard to seat them flush in Sig, you need to seat to consistent depth.

Pull the trigger. You won't be sorry. Love mine.

Me too ! I'm still in the process of dialing in the trigger to get it where I like it. Soon I will try and get some 20-25 yard accuracy. Been kind of busy painting the interior of my condo. I have been doing a little more chrony testing in 75 deg weather. I also shoot the guns receiver with a FLIR temperature gun just for the heck of it. The Sigs power is beyond impressive now.

4/29/19

70 deg. 29.85 in/hg 40% RH Altitude 85ft

Receiver tube temperature 67 deg

Sig Crux alloy 9.6 gr. 1057fps 23.8 ft lbs

Sig Wraith alloy 13.3 gr 886fps 23.2 ft lbs

H&N Field Trophy 14.8 gr. 860fps 24.3 ft lbs

5/1/19

75 deg. 29.97 in/hg 30% RH

Receiver tube temperature 75 deg

Sig Wraith alloy 13.3 gr 893fps. 23.6 ft lbs

Sig Crux alloy 9.6 gr (shot only one) 1074fps 24.6 ft lbs

RWS Superdome 14.5 gr. 871fps. 24.4 ft lbs

It was mentioned in the video regarding the fit between the barrel breech face and the receiver face. Mine looked the same. I conclude that the irregular fit pattern below the receiver air port is a result of the detent plunger rubbing against the receiver face. It just smears the build up material and makes it appear as though the breech seal is not sealing properly below the port. I can assure you no pressure loss is occurring at that point.

Got mine out today for about 25 shots. Wind was 8-10 from about 4 oclock. Had 2 5 shot groups @ 30 that I was ok with. 1 was a little over 1/2" and the other was no more than 3/8" so I was satisfied. I am going to do the chrony again in a couple of days. The AA 16 gr., which actually are 16.3/16.4 were 831 with 4.2sd and temp was 68. That was in march of this year. Hope to get my tree cutting completed soon and get back to having fun.

Good groups. Even light wind like that can cause changes in group potential.
