advice welcom

i'm new to this board and newer to air guns in general. i'm looking into pcp air rifles. the fx impact looks like it would be a good option for me due to the fact i would be getting two guns for the price of one 22cal 30cal with the option to pick up spare barrels in additional calibers later. price is not a deterrent to me i would rather only own one or two vary nice rifles.

any advice is welcome like i said above i'm new to the sport i would like to here from you guys on what you think of my reasoning.

i plan on hunting small and medium game and plinking

There is so much information out there, what do you want a bullpup, carbine, or full size? I would recommend a Kalibru Cricket bullpup or Carbine in .25 and a Vulcan in .22. Only because of there proven track record for reliability and accuracy. The Impact will one day be a GREAT gun maybe the MKII version, but still having some growing pains. I don't know what i would recommend in .30 cal. Being new to airguns, know that power comes in second to a good kill, first and foremost will come shot placement. A lot of people have taken out small and medium size game (coyotes) with a .22 but you have to be on your game, and most will tell you that a .25 is a safer bet, because you can get away with a decent shot instead of a perfect shot, and I agree. Point being I have no need for a .30 Cal and ammo is harder to come by. .22 is everywhere and huge variety, .25 has come a long way but more expensive and variety is almost matching with .22, but 30 cal. I just don't Know.

Every year in March, the European version of the Shot Show takes place in Nürnberg Germany. IWA, as it is referred to, is where manufactures from all over the world gather to showcase their goods and release the new products that have been painstakingly developed in the previous years and are now ready for public admiration.

Can't remember what the acronym stands for though, International something. :)

It really depends on what "sport" you are talking about. If you are interested in hunting then .22 and up are fine. If you want to shoot NRA silhouette, Field Target, or 10 meter bullseye then go with a .177. No advice could possibly make sense not knowing what you are going to do with the airguns. Basically whatever you choose buy the best you can afford.

Well given your time frame, you have a lot of time to read up. I cant tell you how many times I had my mind made up and then spent a week reading just to change it. Ive had Daystate, FX, Cricket, and even a .22 Nitro Venom that ive taken more squirrels with than I can count. Each have their strong points and weak. You will get a ton of different answers and varying opinions here. There is a TON of knowledge and these guys are super about helping new guys out. Any time you get a question, search it using the search engine. If you cant find the answer ask and you shall receive, or be pointed in the right direction. I as a hunter (personally) would pick a .22 or .25. Well balanced is my choice. Light doesn't necessarily mean its easy to shoulder and hold, I had a Wildcat .22 that was cool as hell and light. Im 6'3" and 250", it was a toy to me. I opted for the Cricket which had a bit better weight and balance to it for my frame. A bit heavier, but more stable for me. But each has his own feel. I love a medium length like carbines. If I get another it will most likely be a Vulcan rifle or Cricket carbine. Again personal preference. I pack an M-14 Elk hunting so weight doesn't bother me. I will find someone close I can try theirs first, if allowed. I spent a lot of money blindly on the Wildcat to not like it, and got lucky in a trade.

I hunt in the desert with the .25 because it is more forgiving with the wind. It hits with authority and is a bit more forgiving with a bad placed shot. On the other hand the .22 makes me really take my time, concentrate, and hone my skill with the perfect placed shot. Im much less likely to take a questionable shot with the .22 than the .25. I have no experience with the .30 so someone else will have to chime in. I have taken two Coyotes with the .25 but they were perfect, close, head shots, that planked them out instantly. I wont do that again though. Thats why id like a .30.

Anyway, the research is half the fun. Just remember, when you have made up your mind, keep reading. I your lucky enough to have a club, get involved. Good folks and a good place to be able to handle what you might want to buy. Time is on your side!!

Luck to ya.

For hunting game larger than squirrels I highly recommend a 25 cal. I am waiting on Hatsan to import the AT 44 Nova and will be getting one in 25 cal. You have to figure what you want. Bull Pup or Rifle. Walnut and polished steel or synthetic and matt metal. If you are a traditional walnut and blued steel guy check out Air Arms and Daystate. As for Bull Pups there are many very good ones to choose from. Remember to do your research on a fill station and factor in a little money for a scope.
