Advice on Redwolf

It all depends on what you are planning to do with the rifle. Alot of members from my club are useing the Redwolf .177 low power shooting in Hunter Field Target at just under 20 ft lbs.and it is a very capable competitive gun. I had a redwolf hp .22 for 100 yd BR and it was very accurate but I felt the .22 was at a disadvantage at that distance and have since switched to a .30 rifle. So if Hunter field target is what you intend to use it for then I'd say in 177 it's a great choice.

I think the barrel is 4 inches longer and it’s set up to shoot a little harder. 

I have a redwolf in 22 cal standard. It’s a beautiful gun which is a joy to shoot and accurate out to 50 75 yards. 

I don’t shoot competitively but my suspicion is that you will have a challenge finding one gun that does really well in all of this disciplines you are considering .

Thanks I shoot HFT and 25 meter Benchrest. Plan to shoot some 50 yard Benchrest as well. What’s the difference between high power and low powered Redwolf?

You would pretty much have to go with a standard power .177. I have a standard power RW in .22. My use is just pesting, plinking, and casual target shooting. The rifle is very accurate (after replacing the original barrel), and I believe that one in .177 would be a fine HFT rifle. Since they are not user tunable (without programmer), you just need to be sure the tune is below 20 fpe, and I expect they come with the Hi setting just below 20 fpe.

For 25m you will usually do better with the standard power RW with the standard rifled 18" LW barrel version of the RW, you must consider the high power curve (100%) is usually the most consistent as far as ES over the shot string goes on a Redwolf.

The 18" barrel will shoot the 10.34g JSB or Daystate pellets really well, or you can step up to the high power version of the .177 (30 FPE) and shoot the heavies on the low power curve which gets you around 300+ shots. The high power curve only works well with the JSB 16g BEAST, fantastic for the field but outside the power limits for HFT/FT competition.

Every Daystate Redwolf comes pre-programmed with 3 power curves, hi-med-low, this is 100%-80%-60% (of 100% of course) changing the power is as simple as holding the trigger with the cocking lever open and selecting the power level.

Meant to say above, the .177 HP SAFARI Redwolf is an ART poly barrel rather than the traditional rifling of the 18" LW barrel, I have been experimenting with the poly barrel at much lower speeds with the 10.34g Heavy JSB pellets, so far the testing has shown exceptional results, but Daystate don't reccommend this.

Going by 100 shot strings and groups and using a 2.1mm trasfer port (17 FPE) on the barrel the results are great, very encouraging, however wind effects the 13g Monster JSB less at 50m.
