Advice on Cricket .25 shroud.

I just got the cricket in .25. The case I want to put it in is shorter than the cricket. However if I remove the shroud and keep it separately in the case, the gun fits perfectly well. I usually shoot once every week.

Key questions::

1. Will keeping the shroud (wrapped in bubble wrap) in the case unscrewed from the barrel cause any problems to the barrel ?

2. Will screwing the shroud on and off 4 times a month cause any changes in accuracy or cause the pellets to start clipping or any other issues ?

I just love the shorter case and I don't want to buy a longer one unless absolutely necessary. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I ditto Neil's comments. My FX Boss was too long for my case with the shroud attached. Swapping it on and off never caused me any issues. The only time I would cation against a lot of "on and off" would be if the shroud were "complicated" - like that of the Edgun Matador R3, where several pieces "sandwich" together. If memory serves me, the Cricket is very simple, in that the shroud simply screws to a threaded barrel (like the Matador R2). Just take care to make sure you always take things slowly so you don't ever ding the barrel crown.

I was just going off the aint broke don't fix it motto. I would rather spend a little to be ready to shoot when I pull it out of the case vs have to reassemble it every time. The only gun I would put up with that would be a specifically designed takedown . If I can get my client to satisfy an invoice a week overdue. Then I will have the hands on with the Bobcat by wednesday and can give factual info on the case.

"skygear"...I will have the hands on with the Bobcat by wednesday and can give factual info on the case.

Bobcat? That is no gun to be removing the shroud on! :) It's a 10 minute process. The add-on extensions/baffles are no issue to take on and off. But, the full removal of the Bobcat MK1 shroud may be the most complicated of all PCP bullpups.

edit: I can't speak for the shroud on the MK2 (no experience and no idea if any changes were made from the MK1).

LOL - I didn't plan on removing the shroud. I was going got see how it measured up in the spare gun case I have. I know it will fit in my pelican cases. Thats a given. The linked case I mentioned above was the prompt to my response.

as for removal, I watched one of the AoA videos on the removal and instillation of the Hugget. Seamed pretty straight forward. Remove the retention nut/barrel plug without scratching it and go through the rest of the motions. Little bit of heat/ - I'm sure it is not the most straight forward, but the best never is. vs just grabbing and twisting it off.

Ted don't mind me asking a stupid question: what does ding the barrel crown mean ? Does this mean that when I unscrew the shroud I must ensure that the entire shroud doesn't make contact with the entire barrel while slipping it on or off ? Cause that's gonna require a super steady hand and I ain't no Surgeon :)

Fearnloading:, the barrel crown is at the muzzle. It is the last part of the barrel the pellet touches so it is lapped to allow the pellet to exit with the skirt in full contact. If you ding the crown it can cause the pellet to touch one part of the barrel and not another which will cause pellet spiral and inaccuracy. Just google how to crown a barrel. There is a wealth of info out there.
