Advice on buying a spotting scope

Here’s an alternative. Put a Sightron S3 10-50x scope on your rifle, then you won’t need a spotting scope.

Did you get your DVOR Sightron SIII I posted the $699 Heads up on-?

Yes I did, but after 6 weeks of waiting. I wasn't about to cancel since I like that scope and I needed it for my new Vudoo.

Yup DVOR and Optics Planet sure take their sweet old time but if the deal is good enough-!

You're saving me big bucks! Thanks!

I think I put in a price range of $150-$500 thinking that I wouldn't find anything worth buying below $150. Guess I was wrong. (Imagine that!) I'll definitely check these out!

You're crazy to NOT TAKE SUCH A NO RISK DEAL LIKE THAT FOR A JAPAN MADE SPOTTER. ONE SPEC OR IMPERFECTION ON THE GLASS IT'S FREE.

In an effort to try to cure my craziness I made an offer on that spotting scope. He took it and I'm now the proud owner. I'm gonna be the envy of the range. I may name it Odie in honor of...oh, never mind. 😜

Some of the better spotting scopes for the money are Pentax;the 80mm and 65mm can use the same eye piece, also they can use quality telescope eye pieces....There are some good less expensive ones....what you do Not want is short eye relief and narrow field of view.

Older Nikons, can be a good bet,I use a old Japanese Tasco... Japanese made is a good bet,but then we are talking older scopes...

Hot tip,the Celestron spotting scopes that have been around for decades are great...the mid price ones like D-90...

The outside is due to age and shouldn't affect the performance plus it was only around $50 shipped right-?

Nothing can beat that glass for what you paid not even 4x - 5x the price.

It's a Japan made item with Japan glass.

You go buy that Athlon spotter you had originally inquired about (from return friendly dealer because you WILL RETURN IT) and you will see a BIG DIFFERENCE in glass.

I gave the Burris 20-80 power x 200mm and it is great. Bought from Cabelas some 15 yrs back. You can see the wings on a fly at 100 yds. With case 200 and some change.

While in the store looking I ask the clerk to go upstairs a paste a buisness card on the railing a good 35-40 yds away. Then proceeded tovread the buisness card with all their spotting scopes. Many mfgrs claim that small print shows best clarity at distance and it worked. The only scope thatvwas more clear on that business card was a 1800 Zeiss. Even the Leupold at 600 was not as clear. Have no idea if this same scope is still made, but I use mine to watch the animals play in the woods about a quarter mile from my home. Racoons love to wrestle!!

I had one of those B&L DIscoverer and it was fine until my eyes started going bad, I developed a condition overnight that resulted in thousands of floaters, then later cataracts. I got a Kowa TSN 882, which is too big, so picked up one ot the 663 models, that uses the same eyepiece. I find the straight through view easier to use. I also got one of the 27x long eye relief eyepieces, much easier to use with my eyeglasses.
