Accuracy shootout: Sig Wraith alloy vs. H&N Field Trophy

I have a lot of fun with that gun. I got a steal on it. Guy hardly ever shot it. He was getting up there in the age. I gave him $400 for it with scope.

I just purchased a tin of the H&N Barracuda Greens. They look exactly like the Sig Wraith pellet. Funny how the H&N rating of 12.35 gr is exactly the same weight Sig lists there Wraith pellet. I'm beginning to think Sig purchases the Wraith pellet from H&N and just puts their name on it. I will keep you posted. My Wraith pellets weigh 13.3gr on average. Let's see if the Barracuda winds up being the same.

The greens sold in Aus are 12.65 gr. I wonder if they are the same pellet? Are the prices the same?

Gary

They sure look the same The tin you have pictured. The Ebay ad said they were 12.35gr. Same as the Wraith. But the can lid says they are 12.96gr. Strange!! I will measure them for length, skirt diameter, head diameter, with a dial caliper. Will also weigh them. Funny that your tin says 12.65 gr.

Here are the ones I bought.

Ended up getting the H&N Barracuda Greens yesterday. The tin states " for PCP rifles only " Strange ?? They are marked as 12.96gr. Here are the weight and dimensions. Dimensions were based on three pellet average. Weights based on five pellet average. They are not the same pellet but nearly identical. Except for the length. Will post a 30ft 5 shot accuracy comparison later today. Very surprised on the weights being the same.

Length .344" .329"

Head .216" .217"

Skirt. .226" .225"

Indeed there are some strange variances between American and Australian H&N Green pellet tins. We often are at the end of the line when it comes to new products, changes etc so I guess there could have been a change that hasn’t filtered down to us yet. If no change then it may be to different tastes, wants etc between the two. I’m at a loss why on your tin it states PCPs only. Why should they have all the fun😂😂

look foward to the accuracy tests.

Gary

I had a little bit of free time so I shot a 5 shot test group with both the Wraith and Barracuda. Can only do 30ft right now. Results were close but the Wraith was a little more consistent in group shape. The H&N group has three shots in the left cluster and two in the right. Clueless why that happened. All pellets were weighed in at 13.3gr. Only had time to do a quick chrony test because of threat of rain. Shot one 9.6gr Sig Crux alloy just to make sure the gun was up to snuff. It was at 1037fps. I then sized one 13.3gr Barracuda and it launched at 878fps. Right on par with the Sig of equal weight. I circled the test shots on the board.

The slower velocity H&N hits lower than the Wraith . If you stack up all five Trophy impacts you can see the Wraith had the tighter spread.

At the distance you are shooting the lower poi probably has more to do with barrel harmonics. I have a breakbarrel that places Hand N FTT weighing 14.8grs. over an inch and a half higher than 14.3 gr pellets traveling 40 fps faster at 12 yards. I have to adjust my scope 13 MOA when switching from one pellet to another. I have had powder burners do that up to an inch at 50 yds. but never anything like this.

That might be true but I haven't noticed that phenomenon in my Sig yet. At 30ft, much slower and heavier pellets, have been hitting about 3/8" lower than the higher velocity Wraith pellet that is dead on at 30ft.
