Accuracy issues with new Brocock Bantam sniper xr.

Marko, I shot these four groups at 50 yards consecutively, wind from the south gusting to 7 mph. I was, am hungry and tired and waiting for dinner but wanted to prove a point. They're nothing special just groups. All four groups bipod front fist rear. Groups 3 and 4 covered by a dime. Under calm conditions I've done a lot better. Strelok shows over two inches of drift at 50 yards with my setup in a 7 mph wind. Point is the wind is variable at all times and so is the tension in my fist. So I don't expect MOA at fifty yards in all conditions.

Mine is the older bolt action HR HP magnum version with polygonal barrel so some things different then on yours. It is the exact model that Steve on AEAC review a while back. No power/regulator adjustments have been made to mine. It is like it came from the factory. Wild guess would be 7-10K pellets thru it so far.

It has the barrel centering ring (without the holes) fitted about 1 inch back from the crown. It is my understanding they changed the centering ring to a screw on type, added the holes and moved it to the end of the barrel as is shown in your photo. I don't think it is an air stripper, just a centering ring for the shroud.

Mine came with a great trigger, however after about 200-300 rounds it would not cock. They must have had it set on the fine edge. Had to adjust it a little heavier for it to cock, which screwed the trigger feel all up. I took one of the felt tips that came with my Dremel, added a little polish and spent about 20-30 seconds on each of the 5-6 sear edges. Just took off the "black coating". After that the trigger was better than ever even though I had adjusted it a little heavier. Its around 7.5 oz and pretty consistent. Have not touched it since.

It has the 6 position power switch. Level 1 (low) gives me 730 fps with the Crosman 14.3 domes and they like that speed. Level 6 takes them supersonic. It likes the JSB 18, 25 redesigned and 33 gr on level 6. Even though the 18s are 997fps they shoot really good.

Even at max power it is extremely stable with no hammer noise whatsoever. A joy to shoot!

Mod: I did notice after a couple thousand shots the barrel had rotated slightly. Took the scope off and retightened the two set screws.

Marko, your speed of 840fps is unusually slow for a Bantam…I think your groups may tighten up with speeds closer to 900fps. My Compatto was around 890fps and laser accurate. Maybe your HS needs to be adjusted.

I was thinking that way but adjusting regulator could harm my warranty that is written in the manual.

One of my most accurate pcp's was Kalibrgun Cricket with cz barrel shooting Jsb 18.13 at 730fps.Average 100 yards groups were just over an inch with a few under. That is why i bellive it is not all in the speed. But again every barrel is different.

Thanks Marko

Give it time and keep putting pellets through it. My .22 Sniper XR kind of sucked when I first got it. I think the LW barrels are made of harder steel or something. Mine took a while to break in. And the factory mag actually needed a break-in period too. I bought some CARM mags and my accuracy instantly improved. Then I saw a video where the guy chamfered the exit hole for the factory mag and his accuracy got better. I did the same thing and so did mine. I probably have about 800 pellets/slugs through it now and it’s a laser beam. I’m hitting ground squirrels at 100 yards with the Howler slugs consistently. And the Huma reg is awesome.

Hi darylm

I also noticed with first shoots the group with magazine were worst then the ones with single shoot tray but after few 10 pellets they are now the same size magazine or single shoot tray.I am thinking of ordering Carm magazine. I will try to solve that and report back. In a few days.

Thanks Marko

Play with your speed. I have two guns that when I slow the 18.1’s down too slow, the groups open up just like when I make them too fast. The key words are open up. The gun still shoots good but when you find the right speed it shoots better. That sniper looks like it has a long barrel. Bump your speed up a little to get more dwell time and see if your groups improve. Your gun looks accurate just sitting there. I like Brocock rifles. Ergonomically they have things figured out.

I agree with you that it looks accurate. And it feels good in the hands.I only wish that cheek piece could be adjusted higher.

I will see. For now i don't like to mess with regulator adjustment because of warranty. It does seems like everyone else has regulator set at around 150 bar and mine looks to be just under 130 bar.

Thanks

Yes this is wind i know but my groups are even more opened and in calm conditions.

Not only the ones i posted but others that were shoot in no wind also.

I shoot many groups on different days and i know that it is not me.

Over 50 yards groups concerned me even more.

Thanks for your response. My trigger was smooth but had heavy second stage release.I adjusted it for lighter release untill it wouldn cock and then tightened it back some. Now it is better but not great.

Maybe i should polished contact points like you did.

That magnum must be awesome.I took regular Bantam because of shorter length and i don't need so much power.

This is just a thought that if increasing the velocity Doesn’t help or anything else that was suggested maybe try to push a pellet down the barrel and make sure there aren’t any loose or bad spots in the barrel. Just because it looks good looking through it doesn’t mean it actually is. (SORRY I did see were you said you was going to try that now.)

Yes i ordered that cleaning rod so i can push pellet down the barrelI.It will arrive tomorow so i will try that and clean the barrel.

Thanks Ripper.

Marko, you’re welcome! Bantam’s have wonderful platforms. Maybe you can send it back for warranty and have it serviced. I have a RAW now that when I tried shooting 18gr @ 880fps accuracy was good, I bumped the fps up to 950fps and accuracy became excellent. I know that my Compatto and Regal in .22 were both shooting 890-900fps from the factory with 16gr pellets and 850-860 with 18gr both very accurately. I hope you get this accuracy issue resolved! Good luck Marko!
