Events AAFTA National FT Championships hosted by AARR in Morro Bay CA Oct 16-18, 2020

The registration page is now live on our new website https://airgunoregon.com/

go to the "Competitive Matches" page and scroll down.

I'm talking with the hotels and motels in the Morro Bay and San Luis Obispo to get a good price and to save a group of rooms for the competitors who don't want to camp onsite. Camping on site can handle about 40 or so, but there IS only one shower and three toilets. Out houses will also be available. The after match lunch will be free. Please check the extra campers meal package if you want in on the breakfast and BBQs in the evening...otherwise camping is free.

If you have a preference for Morro Bay over SLO, for the rooms, let me know soon.

Thanks,

Match Director

Wayne,

Thanks for the Temecula event Listing in your competitive event schedule, but if you would please show it as a "Long Range Benchrest National Championship" rather than "long range Silhouette" it would be more accurate. Also, the main event is on May 17, 2020 (though shooters are welcome arrive the day before and to camp on site).

Sincerely,

LD

We are still planning to host the event on the dates planned if California doesn't close down the state.

There is no need to preregister since it may get cancelled or you may decide to not attend at the last minute... I'm fine with that, but please send me an email if you are even considering attending the event and include all the normal info for registering. [email protected]

Thanks

Wayne

Hi Garrett,

Still a go at Morro Bay CA. on the proposed date.

If CA shuts down between now and the event date, we will move the event to Ashland, Or. with a limited number of registered shooters.... most likely about 50 competitors split into two groups of 25 each on two different courses possibly..

We have to remain flexible at this point in time...

Howdy Hey Everyone,

There are so many "points of view" to consider as the match director of the 2020 AAFTA National Field Target Championships.

I have to lean on the side of Safety. But that doesn't mean we have to wear masks outdoors... if we can stay 6' apart at all times.

The wind is gonna blow on the coast at Morro Bay CA... it's a 90% chance. So, we can assume we are very safe at 6' apart.

I will have to enforce that rule. And I will have my range officers enforce it. If you do not stay 6' apart, then they will give you a mask to wear. If you refuse, then you WILL be disqualified and asked to leave the site.

That's the only way we can proceed and I can feel fairly safe in protecting the elderly and more vulnerable folks attending.

Masks are about protecting the other people around you.. not yourself. When we gather after and before the match, it might be best to wear a mask at that time, because it's very difficult to stay spaced at that time... based on the results of the last match I hosted, the "Oregon St FT Championships" last month. During the match, distance was easy, but before and after, we tend to need a little more attention to the need of distancing. Again, my range officers will be watching.

So, in summation, it's a go, but let's be careful and still have as much fun as possible.

Keep in mind the "Bubble method" If you travel with or have already been close with a small group of folks, then after or before the match, it's up to you what you do. But in public, you'll need to abide by the rules.

Hi, the web sites say Oct 16th, 17th, 18th. But there is no itinerary posted. What is the schedule for rifles? Is the 16th a practice day? Please let us know what days the rifle (Hunter) competitions are? Trying to schedule transportation and room. Thanks.
Mike

I'm not part of the organization running the match, the way other Nationals were run was Friday was Pistol match and rifle practice Saturday and Sunday was for the rifle matches all classes,

I would guess it follow some variation of the above outline, I hope this helps.

Tom

Competitors,

I’m so sorry we have to take this action.

THE 2020 AAFTA NATIONAL FIELD TARGET CHAMPIONSHIPS IS CANCELED.

It only seems fair to all those top shooters across the country who cannot attend due to the virus. If we look at the list of only verbally and actually committed competitors, it shows the planned event is not even close to a normal AAFTA National event and can’t therefore be listed among the TRUE National contests of the past. Sure it would be much easier for a west coast competitor to win the Nationals this year, but that’s NOT the way anyone here on the west coast wants it.

The AAFTA BoG has agreed to postpone this years’ event and graciously allowed us to host the event next year at the same location in Morro Bay California, so hopefully those with reservations can move your room dates and save any deposits.

We have chosen Oct. 15th thru 17th 2021. With the sign in, equipment checks, practice, and pistol match on Friday the 15th. And day one rifle, AAFTA annual auction and meeting on Saturday the 16th. Day two of rifle and the awards dinner will be on Sunday the 17th.

But, an event is still on for the canceled Nationals date of Oct 16th-18th, the California State Championships. We are assuming that AAFTA plans to count the AAFTA Grand Prix and this match will count towards it and the Grand Prix awards will be given out at this event. As soon as we know for sure I’ll update you.

Hopefully, everyone planning to attend the Nationals will still join us on Oct 16th -18th at the California State Championships Match, but I understand if not.

Those who have paid already can move their payment to next year, or I can refund 90% of your match fees. Email me at [email protected] and let me know what you prefer.

Thanks again for your corporation on this unavoidable issue.
