AAA Evol tweakage

I can tell you all this, it’s pretty loud. The factory moderator doesn’t help a great deal. Donny adapter and a Neil Clague moderator I have is now doing a wonderful job.

The Magpul PRS stock is freaking solid! Very good kit there. LOP, butt pad and cheek-riser are all fully adjustable. This stock on this gun is a great match. The package is tough. I’d bet you could throw this PCP down from a second story window, dust it off and still shoot like a champ! I might just one up Ed and run this dude over with my F350 dually, slam it on the bench and shoot 1-MOA again with it 😂. I’ll take the Discovery off first 🤓

Some nice features; tensioned barrel system. Nice smooth sidelever. Gauge for tube pressure which you don’t have to put your head on the business end to read as it faces to the side. Gauge at the action for reg pressure. Very nice adjustable two stage trigger unit. Nice safety which is ambi and ergonomically located for thumb flip. Pic rail on top and super long pic rail on bottom. The shroud is vented in the rear where it attaches to the action. TJ barrel which I know now to be 1:26 twist. Titanium reservoir me thinks. High quality, self-indexing magazine. Foster male QD for filling the reservoir.

Good review Derrick, and honest list of the Pros. So aside from the creeping reg and less than solid pic rail for bipod, any other Cons? Looking forward to seeing the 100 yard results with pellets and how it shoots the NSA slugs.

It’s loud in factory trim.

The reg was set too high as received to shoot 880-890c my target speed. I know this because the speed would increase as the reservoir and reg equalized ~ a tale tale sign of reg being set too high for hammer spring tension setting. After lowering reg pressure, the rise went away but some creep came in.

Going back in and will look over reg. Polish load bearing surfaces of the belleville washers as well as the piston rod. I’m going to look carefully at the piston seat and see about dressing that up as well as change the seals. I’m going to reach out further to Huma as well. A drop-in replacement would be a great option.

Polished and slicked things up in the reg. There was a small imperfection in the seat seal. I polished it out. I took several thousands of material away from the seal. Reassembled without adjusting anything. I’m now at 150 bar due to the seal being further from the seat. I’m going to leave it here for now and test.

I set speed 3.5% less than plateau. It’s at 920-925. All this was done at 4:30 am before heading in to work. I’ll see what it’s doing this evening as far as consistency over the chrony.

The TJ 30 cal (.300 groove / .294 bore) is a 1:26, and I thought they also offered one that used a mandrel for 1:42. Sounds real familiar, and I thought that was who AAA used for their barrels 🤔

Man I would get one, but I haven't seen anyone report velocities with 65gr or heavier
1f62d.svg

It has the power but with a 1:42 twist rate, don’t know how they will shoot.

I will, however, try 43.8s, 47.2s, & 49.5s.

Hmm, I thought the twist on these were 1 in 27, that's what he said mine is???

Mine shot 44's at 882 fps the most accurately. At 60Y 8 shot groups were .4" ctc. Reg on mine is set at 2200 psi.

Why an 8 shot group?

Who is He?

EVOL Tactical Carbine Specifications:

He - is Tom Costan. I'm looking at the text right now on my phone from when I asked him, but of course he could of hit the 7 instead of the 6, because others are stating it's a 1/26 barrel twist.

The magazine holds 8 rounds so that's why I shot 8, doing so gives me a better idea of how well the rifle is grouping vs shooting 5 rounds.

Man, I'll tell yuh that tighter twist really works well at 200 and 300 yards with the 44 gr JSB's! Wasn't hard hitting a 7" diamond steel at 289Y in 7-10 mph winds.

Though I tried the NSA 47's and they only did 1.25" at 50y, darnit, I was really hoping they would perform in my rifle..

Claudio Flores Guiterrez said, "For many days I had been talking with Nick to make me a perfect Slug for my EVOL .30, today I had the opportunity to shoot the ogives that Nick made exclusively for the EVOL .30 and what a surprise I had, I just adjusted the speed at 905 FPS, mount a new Kahles K525i. It was only 5 shots at 40 meters and I was really surprised by the precision and quality of the NSA warheads, good job Nick !!"

This is in reference to the newest high speed offering of the NSA 47.2gr Hollow Point Dish Back.

@steve123 - yep the NSA 47gr (hand made ones) were barrel (twist) picky for me too. I had the best results in a choked LW, and they also did ok in the FX liners. Notta so good when I tested a mag in a 28.5" TJ 👎. Try some longer / heavier NSAs.

Ha, you're right! Okay make that 9 rounds into .4" CTC, well except the last groups was .5" wide at 60Y.

Yeah, I'll have to try some other weight slugs.

Thanks

@steve123, thanks for clarifying. I think the .30 mag has a 9 round capacity. Did you try 900 fps or more with the 44.75gr pellets?

Yes 9 rounds, not 8, I had been shooting the rifle single loading so hadn't payed that much attention.

Yes I did try 900 fps, I didn't mess with the reg at all, that's out of my area of expertise, I only adjusted the HST. By 925 fps with the 44's I thought the cocking force was a bit excessive, so I kept backing down the HST till the groups tightened up, which was 882 fps. 900 wasn't bad though.

Good deal. Thank you.

Went back in and readjusted the reg’s set. It is now at 2,200 psi. I am plateauing at 935 fps with the 44s. I knocked that back to 885-890 with HST. She is breaking in after the seal shave. This morning I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel 😁. Things are tightening up and the string is looking better and better.

@crusher, I may need more pellets brother. Your Evol has a mad appetite!! 😉

Got home and tested more. Speed rose as the gun left the regulator. Tale tale sign that the plateau to set speed differential is too high. Plateau at 935 fps and speed was set to 890 fps.

Went back in and lowered reg pressure to 137 bar ~ 2,000 psi. Tested finding a plateau of 918 fps. Adjusted HST to get 900 fps. Here is a full shot string from a 250 bar fill. This dog will hunt 😁. It falls off reg with a slow decline now after 32 shots.

I bought 2 sleeves (20 tins) in October and I have 1 tin left. Just received a sleeve of the 50 gr. It was my intention to bring you a tin for a try, but forgot them in the truck when I dropped off the case. I’ll hook you up brother.
