AA Diopter on Diana M48 .22

So I just had to set something up with irons and I looked everywhere I knew to look for a Diana setup for my M48. Then I ran up on this diopter.

That problem solved I tried to shoot the rifle using the issue front sight. I bottomed out the diopter and was still shooting too high. So I started prototyping with my 3D printer.

After a couple of hours I had this, which is currently a friction fit with keys as on the original that slide into the 9mm dovetail.

It's a little bright but I have other black plastic which I will use when I am done tweaking it.

I shot this target with it this afternoon. The squiggle is the first five I used to find my zero. Then I shot #1 and adjusted it again to shoot #2 and then I shot #3. It ain't at all impressive. It is off the bench but the third group shows that I am beginning to get that skill set refreshed.

That's a quarter. It might have been a fluke. More shooting will tell. You can see the vertical stringing in the zero group and the #1 group. Just getting the eye used to putting that black ball on top of that post the same way every time and stock weld of course. I think this rifle has done the ten dimes challenge with an SWFA 10x42 on it. I think I can do it with iron sights if I practice enough. The 48 just feels like it should be shot without an optic. I've ordered a quality hasty sling for it. The old lady (1992 West Germany, T01, tuned by John in Pa) will get some attention this spring.

I'd like to get it set up and shoot some FT with it TBH. There is still the matter of that AA diopter sliding around. An allen head screw will fix that. The diopter sits too close to the dovetail to let me use the normal scope stop screw. I'll just find me a little bitty allen head screw.

Nice work. Now if you can only get rid of the road hazard glow.

😉 yep, no worries on that... I'll post a pic of the finished job later today. Couple minor tweaks coming still. I think I want to open a window on the sight tube across the top. Make it more like a buckhorn so that light can hit the post. I want to shoot it in less than perfect light. Still debating whether or not to make the barrel tube more like the profile of the original sight.

Edit: Just added this as a lark. I'll shoot it and probably put it away. A picture might find it's way into the thread.
