A Walther Rotex RM8 .22 magazine problem

Using the factory supplied metal 8 shot magazine the grouping is lovely except when I bought a spare one it came with a narrower elastic band retainer.
Although there doesn't seem to be any damage to the pellets, the group opens up badly.
Having extracted a few pellets from the breech, I can't see any problems so am at a loss what is going wrong.

Anyone got thoughts on what is going on?

the band is to hold the pellets in the mag so once they go in the breech I'm not sure how they would matter

I guess I would order some new bands to try on the extra mag and see if that is the problem, part number 465.220.04.1

and if that doesn't do the trick maybe a new factory mag

did you measure the 2 mags to see if there is any differences in any way

sometimes mags and gun don't get along but it is odd

that's all I got, not much
