Just had some fairly severe weather move through the state yesterday. Left quite a mess behind and about 95,000 of us without power. Today was a beautiful day though, however unusually warm. So, I made a quick trip to my favorite little spot to see if I could pick off a few squirrels this afternoon. I took my HW97K for it's maiden trip to the woods. I just finished getting it tuned up and had already shot it from my bench quite a bit. So, I knew it was accurate. But, nothing builds confidence in a rifle like being able to easily and consistently take game with it. Speaking for myself of course. It didn't let me down. I heard and saw quite a few squirrels. But, only two ever presented me with a descent shot that I felt comfortable taking.
I shot the first while walking along the edge of the woodline in the pasture. He was sitting on a limb right at 23 yards (25 yards is my zero). I dropped to a sitting/kneeling position and aimed at his head. Squeezed the trigger......and the pellet popped him right where it was supposed to. The second was taken while still hunting in the woods. He was also in a tree........on his way down it anyway. Again, I was in a position that didn't allow for a prop on a tree side. So, I went to a sitting/kneeling position again and made another head shot. This one just a tad longer, at 28 yards. (I used a range finder to get the distances after each shot). The 97K performed beautifully in the field today. Granted, a bit of a slow afternoon. But, I only took two shots and it was dead eye on it! Looking forward to some more hunts with it........it's a very nice and accurate springer.
Thanks....TR
