A High-Tech Brain - Daystate

Tested several more pellets in different weights at various velocities, just to make sure I had tested everything before giving up on this one and sending 'Simple Jack' packing.

Each pellet was the same. So long as the velocity was in a reasonable zone, two or three pellets would make a group with the rest showing either a 'walking' POI shift or just shifting scattershot.

Testing was again done at 20m. Did it at my folks place and my dad was out of targets, so used this old golf score card, aiming at certain numbers, corners etc. Not great, but doesn't need to be. Shot another bit of wood while setting up velocities in advanced mode so no random shots were taken on this target. This delta wolf has the dubious honour of being both the most expensive as well as the most inaccurate gun I've ever owned.

The blue ringed groups are 25gr jsb at 810 and then 860 fps

The green rings are 25gr jsb at 900 and 930

The purple is H&N 18gr at 880

The red is 21gr H&N baracudas at around 860 if I remember right.

Confirmed lemon I'm afraid

Wow you should make a regular post about this I'm curious to see what the general discussion would be.

Ok Guys, I would be the one Scott Schneider/Motorhead is talking about with the Delta Wolf at 12 ft pounds. I got my Delta Wolf a week before the match, messed with it in the garage and back yard to 55 yards, shot 8.4 pellets because thats what I know (even tho my barrel will shoot 7.9, 8.4 and 10.3 very very well), and hit the road to Oregon. When I got there I spent most of Friday on the range, with the darned gun shoot an inch low at my zero range of 30 yards, and it got worse from there. I had spoken with my friend and fellow club member Bobby Corcorran who is a DW genius prior to hitting the road, and when my gun was shooting low, I was so darned stubborn about getting it to shoot well like i Knew it did, I totally spaced calling Bobby for information. Anyway I tried again the next day before the match, and it was still shooting low, so i decided to hit the road back home to Arizona, without shooting the match. Upon getting home I called Bobby who told me the issue was the barrel band thats slammed up against the aluminum chassis. Seeing as aluminum expands much earlier than streel, if the band that is the sleeve for the carbon fiber shroud and provides power to the chrony, is touching the chassis, the aluminum pushes the point of impact down. SInce the power contacts in the chassis have about an 1/8 inch of travel, as Bobby and some others have said, get the band OFF THE CHASSIS. MIne is about 2 business cards away from the chassis and we shot a club match today in Flagstaff at Mormon Lake. A 48 shot match and I missed 1 , 3/8 inch target because of mis clicking. The gun performed flawlessly and works very very well at 12 ft lbs WFTF , with the 17 inch 177 barrel. I could not be happier.

I’m sure Daystate will take care of you.

@Centercut I'm sure they will. Living where I do, things don't always go as smoothly as they should with this sort of stuff but the daystate importer/distributor has historically been good. Just hope I don't end up waiting months for a resolution/replacement.

Wow you should make a regular post about this I'm curious to see what the general discussion would be.

@jayr I'm reluctant to start anything that could be seen as a dedicated 'The/my Delta Wolf Sucks' thread. Especially since I'm currently unsure where exactly the fault lies and given my extreme disappointment in the gun so far, I'm unsure if I'd be able to communicate all of this without some of my current irritation shining through (I am trying very hard). I'm still tending towards a rubbish barrel (or batch of barrels given or possibly some flaw/ play in how that barrel/shroud combo is mounted to the gun.

The problem is it's currently hard to decide if the results on target are purely bad barrel or poi shift, or some combination of both. I'll take some scopecam footage today to look at pellet flight if I get a chance. The last gun I had that caused such headaches was a gen 1 FX Crown that turned out to have a both a really bad STX liner as well as the now known (and largely sorted) liner/oring related poi shift.

Just to reiterate, everything that comes before the barrel/chrony/shroud seems to be functioning consistently and the frame itself is appears well built and rigid. Not a lot that could originate there. The results I'm seeing from Claudio Flores and several others with guns set at much higher powers puts the 'barrel attachment flaw' theory into question though. Unless of course it's a case of sloppy manufacturing tolerances somewhere that made it into the batch of guns sent to SA. A bad batch of barrels out of LW could also explain the fact that several of us here are having accuracy and poi issues, although not quite to the extreme degree I am.

Anyway I'll rather start a dedicated thread when everything is resolved, however and whenever that may be. At least I'll have cooled off somewhat by then.

Macros, did you take the grub screws loose on the shroud collar ? I did not the first time I tried to do the adjustment and the barrel grub screw pulled me right back up against the block . The 2nd time I pulled the shroud back and loosened the collar screws tighten the barrel then adjust the collar 2 cards thick from the block then put shroud back in place. Results are great !

Yah I did, and the collar is now sitting quite nicely, a credit card thickness away from the frame. Didn't help at all unfortunately. Good news is I'm slowly eliminating one potential issue after the other and I'm becoming more and more sure it's just a dud barrel. I'm likely going to start another thread a little later as I think I've stumbled on a pretty easy way to confirm or refute that...
