A Field Target Adventure

This past week I decided on a whim to attend a field target match in Canada. The match was held in Prescott Ontario at the Grenville Field Target Club on Saturday. I made contact with another shooter in the Rochester NY area Sean McDaniels for border crossing info and paperwork. It turns out bringing airguns/firearms into Canada is a simple form and fee.

I left home at 3AM Saturday morning to avoid traffic on the 8hr drive up. Crossing the border at noon and having time to kill I treked to Ottowa for a pint or two of local brew. Having satisfied my thirst I retired to my Airbnb for the night.

Sunday morning was damp and cool, though the forcast called for sun and warmer temps before match end. Arriving around 8:30 I walked to the sight in range meeting the match director and another club member finishing up set up. After some chit chat and metting other members(two of which are also named John) we moved to the sight in range. After numbers were confirmed and B.S. exchanged the saftey meeting was held and off to the course we went.

The match is held in the woods, though with recent torrential rain it resembled the low pacific north west. The match was mostly uneventful with a few cold lines for string hangups otherwise things went smoothly. For my part a few mental errors and a mystery wind at one target I finished 6 down out of 60 possible shots. After awards, putting away targets and a meal I went to visit Chrysler Marina and the Chrysler Farm(sight of a War of 1812 battle).

After the battle sight visit I went back to my room and got ready for the drive home. As I'm writing this I've made it home and am enjoying a proper IPA.

I'll post some pictures when I get home.

I was going to caution you about posting your signature online John, but then noticed it's illegible anyway; so moot point. ;-)

Nice adventure and great shooting, Bud! Good to see some counties are not allergic to awards... yet. Part of the reason I'm such a braggart is because when 'bragging rights' are the ONLY reward(s), I figure why be shy about bragging?

It was a short course with small kz's by necessity/current club rules. By no means was it easy. There are elevated targets some past 45. The double miss, my only of the day occurred on one. It's good prep for the woods course at Crosman as our course will be good practice for the field course as well. See you on Sunday.
