A Consumer's (not an expert) Thoughts on the Wildcat and the EDgun R5M .25s

You probably have read or seen previous posts by me questioning why I purchased the Edgun. After at least 400-500 shots with it (I gave it some time as members suggested I should do)I have decided it's not for me. It's accurate. It will probably function perfectly, longer than the Wildcat V2 and if it did need attention it would be infinitely easier for an 'average' Joe like me to repair. I have experimented with the second stage trigger pull weight, which I wouldn't have dared to try with the Wildcat, and I still can't get it where I would like it to be. I adjusted it to the lightest setting I could get it to and reached the point where there was no 1st stage.

The stock moderator on the R5M is plenty quiet. I did add a Donny FL to the Wildcat and off to the side of the guns I would say they are both backyard quiet. However there is a loud hammer strike ping which occurs right next to your ear when you have a good cheek weld and fire the shot with the EDgun. To me, that is terribly annoying. If that can't be quieted, like on a Marauder, it in itself would be a disqualifier for me. If you don't make sure the bolt is totally closed and locked when loading a pellet there is a nasty puff in your ear and a loud noise that also impacts the ear. That can be attributed to operator error and maybe I need to shoot 2000 shots before it 'breaks in' and it will easily latch shut.

The barrels...Both the smooth twist and the Luther Walther barrels are comparably accurate. I have no scientific comparisons I have done but an average guy shooting the rifles in his field's 100 yd. range they are about the same. I couldn't discern any difference. Here's the however...I have read posts on here where folks have said, within a range of 100-500 shots, the barrel on the EDgun needs to be cleaned. On the smooth twist I only need to clean it when the accuracy drops off and I have well over 2500 shots through it and it still hits where it's aimed.

The Wildcat fits me and feels great. The EDgun doesn't.

I'll have to live with the eventuality that sooner or later I will have to send the Wildcat for service or repair. I have built and flown radio control helicopters but going into the Wildcat's internal organs seem to me best left to the FX PCP surgeons.

There is no intent to demean any of the PCPs but rather to express what my experiences have been. If I have angered anyone I apologize and understand please that is and was not the intent. In awhile you'll see the EDgun in the classifieds and the pleasure of the hobby continues as I will be choosing my next PCP experience.

Good info. Sucks that our hobby isn't widespread enough we can't just go to a shooting range and try out all the cool air rifles. I had the exact same thing happen with the Edgun Leshiy.. nothing I couldn't have lived with, but just wasn't the gun for me. Sold it and bought another... now I have trouble trying to decide which of my awesome airguns to use. All of them are either Bullpups or semi bullpups, and I just don't see that changing anytime soon.

The trigger on the EDgun can be adjusted and tuned to be a very nice trigger with zero modification to the gun. I’d be happy to discuss via phone.

The hammer slap is inevitable and part of the design. It can be reduced significantly by lowering the reg pressure to a point where the max velocity achieved at the first peak is no more than 15 fps over your target velocity with your chosen pellet/slug. It will still slap though and it is truly next to your ear when shouldered. If you have already tuned in this fashion and can not live with the sound, it is not for you.

The air blast from the breech is something you can not live with as it affects accuracy and is beyond annoying. It is fixable... Fix it or ask for help.

The barrel will need cleaning. I have found that the interval gets longer and longer though as you shoot the gun. My R3M goes 5 tins minimum now. My R5M Long will already go a full 2 tins. Honestly, I consider this part of the experience of a new rifle. It is so easy to clean the barrel I don’t even consider it maintenance.

No gun or brand is suited to everyone. You seem to be wanting to give yours it’s due diligence and are speaking candidly with no malice. Perhaps you want to get it as good as it can get... if so there are folks that will discuss and help. The accuracy and tank-like reliability coupled to the ease of work/maintenance on the EDgun is simply something that appeals to some... If not to you, it will be an easy piece to sell off.

Me, personally, appretiate your report a lot, as I have no intention to push everybody to have EDguns, as it would be to boring and in this case I would have no stimuls to develope. I appretiate the tone of you report a lot, as I think that too emotional tone, no matter negative or possitive just mislead the others.

Sorry it didn't fit you, but we all are different and like differents things, that is absolutely normal, otherwise it would be to boring to live in the sociaty when everybody wears the same garment, read the same books, watches the same movies and have the same thoughts. I experienced in in USSR and have no intention to go back that way :
