A Colibri came to nest at my house

Wound up with an early Kalibrgun Colibri last weekend. Very cute little birdšŸ˜

The gent I got it from said it was one of 50 sent out worldwide for testing and two of them made it to the states. The key being this was a version built dedicated as a manual repeater and the bolt is not spring loaded and there is no provision for indexing the magazine. It works like any conventional magazine that snaps a pellet into alignment when the probe clears. They had problems with blown seals and something in the design was a patent infringement which ended this run. The most obvious visual difference is the magazine design and I guess the later Colibris have much better sound moderation. I didn't buy it as a collectible, it just looked cool. Unfortunately it has already leaked all of its air out over the past 5 days, so it will need a bit of loving to help it out.Ā

Here are two pictures showing the lack of an indexing function.Ā

If anyone else has one like this, I love to learn more about this oddball.

Thanks

Fuss,

Funny how things go, I traded my R5M for a Cricket and some boot, which went towards the purchase of the Colibri. I love my other 4 Edguns, but the R5M was too much overlap in .25's and I wanted a full power.22, so the Cricket will scratch that itch for now. I just liked the aesthetics of the Colibri and didn't have a "need" for it, so it went home with me. I've read about your affinity for the one you have and I hope to enjoy this one also.

Michael,

Hopefully I can square it away on my own, but I appreciate the lead. Not to mention that this one might be a wee bit different than what is usually seen.

Wow Crank, I didn't know they were originally manual multi shot. Like you, I learned that these guns have kind of a cult like following. I purchased mine a couple months ago. It had a leak so I tore into it several times to get it squared away. Did all the Earnest mods, and now have an intimate relationship with the internals.

I totally love this gun. It might just be my favorite pcp, out of many. I can't see me ever letting this one go.

Have fun with your lucky purchase of such rare gun's

Scott

Scott,

Gotta say that nickel finish looks great on yours. šŸ‘After over 30 years of gunsmithing, I think I can manage the reseal and sorting out the mechanical bits, so it will be a fun learning opportunity. I'm waiting for the parts to reseal a Walther LP3 I got at the show also, so leaking guns don't make me terribly concerned. I tend to be drawn to tempermental designs because of the challenge to sort them out.Ā

Hopefully someone else with an early one like this will chime in and help expand the knowledge base of these neat little guns.

I've had a few PCP rifles that I've sold over the years that still mess with me I had to let go ....My lil Colibri was one I still miss !Ā

Mine was like 3rd and and worked over by Ernest , Except for a Friend's Daystate Pulsar 22 with a Donny mod on the end ....It is the quitest 22 caliber Airgun I ever heard shot .Ā

It was literally impossible to hear if you were further than 50 yards from it as it fired . What a fun little gun.Ā

Enjoy it man , they are Great !!!

The thing about this oddball is that I don't know if it was an early design before they planned semi-auto, or a sidebar variant to overcome some of the failings when the option to be semi-auto went down the drain. I'll try to take a peek at the internals this weekend if I have time. I will try to remember and take plenty of pictures. I would like to compare the mechanical differences with the production model.

Obviously one of the problems will be to guard the original magazines carefully since it doesn't look like the later ones will work. I may see what it would take to machine a couple of spares. Crazy labor intensive, but likely the only way to have extras. Don't get me wrong, I don't plan on wearing the gun out, but I hate being limited on magazines if I can avoid it.

I'll also look at the moderator and take pictures to see why this isn't as quiet as the production gun. Rc-air was very up front honest and indicated that this one has more snap to it than the legendary quiet that the later ones are famous for.Ā

I'll try to be proactive and keep adding more pictures and info to expand the documentation about these neat little pups.
