Looking for a new under lever spring gun. Narrowed it down to either a HW97 or 77. I always thought the HW97 was the better gun, but, I checked out the Krale web site and the 77 costs more than the 97. Which is the better gun ?

They are the same weapon, with the same mechanics. What differentiates the 2 "sisters" is the shortest barrel in 977, which suffers less than the "time barrel" and the lack of metal sights ... always in 977. The 977 was created by the Germans for the discipline of the FT , while the 77 is a springer designed for hunting harmful pests. It depends on the use you have to make of it. If you have to do FT races the 977 is perfect, if instead you have fun, maybe without mounting a spotting scope, then the 77 is better. And then, however, it depends a lot on your taste .... I don't compete, but I preferred the 977 cal. 177, springer who has been very fashionable in Italy for more than 10 years.

Just for back yard shooting & hunting, something that's accurate, fun & easy to shoot. Probably .177. scoped. I shoot a lot of PCP, am looking at getting back to spring guns. Thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

The HW77 with the laminate stock is very comfortable and looks like it's for the 97 as well based on design. YO!

I have both - a 97 in .177, a 97 in .22, and a 77 special edition in .22. I love them all. I believe I actually like the balance of the 97 a little more and the built-in barrel weight on the 97 seems to help make it more stable. If all I was going to do was hunt with it, the .77 would be my pick. Can't go wrong either way.

I don’t own the 97 but I own the Hw77 in stainless. When I was researching which rifle to buy I was guided by this report by B.B. Pelletier. I’m sure what ever you choose you will very happy with.

No worries, you are correct imo about the 77 being a hunter. Mine is 22 cal and I use the 12.65 gr H&N Greens.

I Love my Hw77, I put a Williams Peep Rear sight on it, and Love this setup. Occasionally ill put a scope on it, But really Like it with the Peep site.

The K version of each has a shorter barrel. I have a 97K and a 77 and noticed that the 77 has more mechanical noise. They both are very accurate.
