55 yards Group Therapy

This afternoon the wind slowed down a bit, so I brewed a fresh pot of coffee and headed out with a couple underlever rigs for a group therapy session at 55 yards.

A bit about the rifles:

1. HW97K .177: sub 12 fpe V-Mach kit fitted including V-Mach grooved Hybrid C-Form piston seal, standard weight piston, no buttons or bearings on piston/comp tube (but lightly polished and lubed oh so slick😉), V-Mach Rekord trigger unit. Weight of rig: just over 16 pounds. 50x scope mag used.

2. Walther LGU Master Pro 177: Paul Short customized internals (lightweight piston, PFTE piston liner, new bearings machined on piston, transfer port work on compression tube, new bearings machined on compression tube), Rowan adjustable trigger. Tight barrel on this one😉. Weight of rig: nearly 13 pounds. 24x scope mag used.

Both rifles shot groups at 55 yds that could be completely covered with a quarter edge to edge, but today the 97k beat out the LGU by a hair. Best group today for the 97k was a dime, c-t-c, with JSB 7.9 Express. LGU with the same pellet, a penny c-t-c. And the LGU with AA 8.4, a nickel c-t-c. POA for the LGU groups was a small Sharpie marker dot about 4" above. There was a predominant right to left gentle crossbreeze, with the occasional lull and quartering (left to right) headwind shift. I waited out the lulls and shifts.

A couple days ago, just before sunset there was almost zero wind. I stuck a 1" black circle and tried to get a 5 shot group inside it with the 97k . Using AA 8.4 grain pellets at 55 yards, from a seated FT position:

4 through a tight hole, with one at 12 o'clock. Lots of potential.

No excuses. Eventually I'll get that group tighter.

Thanks for looking!

Some GROUP THERAPY sessions are shorter than others. Efficiency is king!

5 shots at 55 yards with a customized, newly assembled HW97k .177, shot while the sun was coming up behind the trees. C-T-C easily covered with a dime.

Glorious sun rising, it shines for us all:

Just a quick nudge of recoil, then the "flash" of the pellet arch, followed by a small hole appearing within 3/8" of where crosshairs were when the piston was released. 😉

Looking forward to the next session!
