.510 ammo for Hammer and Texan

Ammo is.not complicated at all for the texan 50. Any pure lead cast slug at .513 diameter and then sized to .510 will shoot like a dream. I wouldn't use hollow points of any kind for deer or hogs they do not pass through at low velocity and leave zero blood trail. Does the game die from hollow points yes very shortly but can you find it with no blood. Regular soft cast lead expands naturally and you can get full pass through s leaving a blood trail and both lungs collapsed. You should get into casting you own slugs. Not that hard.😀 I have found that weights under 450 grain are useless in the 50 cal. I.molds from 300 grain up to 650 grain in the .510 for the texan. That being said I have a bunch of 475 grain hollow points I made and am never going to shoot.

In my Texan stock tx2 Valve 34 inch barrel the 650 grain boat tail spire point is the most accurate with a velocity of 750 fps powder coated. 474 grain at 840 fps 460 grain at 860 fps and the 300 at 940 fps. At over a hundred yards the 300 grain are useless the 460 grain bullet shoots just as flat at 160 yards and hits slot harder.

Lehigh Defense is about to release .510 ammo for air rifles. Sounds promising. Has anyone tried the Cutting Edge Bullets .510 Raptor hollowpoint pistol bullets? It is a 350gr controlled fragmentation bullet. Looks like it would work well for hunting.
I wondered the same thing. Did you ever give it a try?
