45 min/66cu bottle with SCBA valve. replace valve or add adapter?

Sand the knob and paint it like I did, clean everything else with citrus cleaner, it will remove the soot... Mine looked almost that bad... Get a fill station and go...





I removed the valve knob, stripped the old paint, sanded out the gouges and painted it, then replaced the thin nylok nut and reassembled it...

You can buy used SCBA tank valves in good shape on eBay for $20 to $40. I like the Interspiro ones.

You can buy a fill rig for SCBA tanks for $40. I use these (link below) all the time and have never had any issues...

If you remove the nickel plated bracket fastened around the valve body where it meets the bottle with the 3 screws, you'll expose the flats that are used to remove the valve with a wrench, makes for much easier cleaning to get the bracket out of the way... (Don't try and remove the valve UNDER PRESSURE, EVER...!!!)

I'm in the same boat here with the 66 cuft scba tank I bought recently. Suppose to get the scba fill apparatus like the one above today. Only thing I'm not to crazy about is trying to fill the tank with that valve. It would be so much easier if it had a male foster fitting to just clip the compressor hose to so I guess all just have to take the male fitting off of my hand pump and install it on my compressor. 

Hint: male/male foster, the filling people can fill directly through your fill hose...

Joe is a bit pricey, easy ( if not secure) one stop shopping which appeals to many.

A new/as new "Scott" or equal vale on ebay or such should be very inexpensive. You've got your tank psi " status " from the valve gauge (same as you've got now - "scott" glows in the dark- I top off at "30" now a real fill gauge Yes you want that.

My used tank looked as new so I just need an fill unit, spent $55.00 for everything (single gauge, bleed, micro-bore hose,foster,whatnot) shipped.

I recently purchased a fill system thru eBay, and I guess I was the unlucky one with what I got. It did cost me exactly $41, and looked exactly like the one Centercut posted up. I go to use it the first time and do a test with a dead head connected, and all air bursts out at the threaded connection. Upon close inspection I see this-





The metal that rolled down at the tip of the insert probe has jagged edging, causing the o rings to get torn up. I went as far as trying to polish and smooth out the edges with a Dre Mel but still won’t hold air. I’m trying to get reimbursed for a failed system from the eBay seller and all they want to do is reimburse me $15 out of the $41, even though it’s a system I can’t use, and they won’t pay for the return shipping. 



I ended up driving to air tanks plus plus as they are local to me, and purchasing the Stikboy that Bikbagger posted a pic on. What an awesome fill station. Very compact, comes with a neoprene protective zip bag. It oozes of quality, as Bikbagger can surely attest.

It’ll cost more than the price shown on their webpage, but they can make a custom length hose for you if you need longer than the 36” length it comes in.

Augie, sorry yours came f'ed up. Got mine yesterday (my 3rd) and it's flawless. Odds just weren't in your favor that day. Quality Control missed the mark on that one!

I apologize, Centercut, as I missed your recommendation, and like an idiot bought the orange o ring type, as you can see the failed o ring in the pic is orange, as orange as my fingers get after eating Cheetos. Shoot! Live and learn purchase, that’s for sure! 

Having never owned an SCBA tank(thanks again, Gerry!) I see the benefits where one can own multiple tanks of this kind, and just have one fill station that can be used from tank to tank. Nice, vs a tank that comes with the fill station permanently attached. That Stikboy, though much pricier than an eBay type fill station, is definitely a “you get what you pay for” in quality. Just the compactness of it makes it a dream. I put together a plastic kit, that’s a remake plastic version of a military ammo box(from Big5 sporting good) that holds all my air support items such as my fill stations, the Regman, another hose for tethering, some misc. QD fittings and probes, spare o rings, etc. 

The other day was a great example of this kit, when I installed a Huma reg in my Wildcat and went thru a chronograph tuning session with CHUCK at my side, I was able to facilitate this whole process easily and quickly. 

Oh, for you SCBA tank owners, Air Tanks Plus carries a sweet plug that protects the threads of the tank along with keeping the insides clean, that stays tethered to the tank so you’ll never lose it. Very inexpensive protection, and the cool factor is also there.

Cosmic, they sent me an email saying they have to bring this problem to their supervisor, so he can make the decision on a partial or full refund. So “hang tight” is what they are trying to say, before contacting eBay. I say it’s a stall tactic, so I’ll give them one day. I offered to send it back, on their dime, of course, but none of the overseas sellers wants that. They would rather refund, in my past experiences on poor quality stuff. Like recently I ordered a 45 degree tilt out pic rail to attach to the scope rail on my gun. It is of a quick disconnect. When I got it it would not latch tightly on my scope rail, unless I tightened up on the cross bolt with an Allen key. Yeah, I got it to snug up, but now it was so tight it would not act as a QD. I contacted the seller and they want pics and vids showing the problem. Once they saw, they refunded me 100%. 



I think after this dispute im gonna pass on anymore overseas sellers on Knick Knack trinquet stuff like pic rail additions and Quick disconnect stuff.
