It looks like I am in need of a replacement for the crappy, dookified, junk, Centerpoint 4x32 that was included with 2 of my rifles....( can u tell I hate the Centerpoint?)

I am leaning towards a Hammers 3x9x32 or 40.......I need to know which to get the 32 or 40. I think the 40mm will fit great on the weaver rail setup on the Nitro Venom as it sits up about 1/4 inch from the barrel, where as the NPS TR77 sits low on an 11mm dovetail. One would think that the manufacturer would include mounts that would clear the barrell for the given application...Am I correct?

I need to know which one I should get? I shoot at no more than 50 yards, usually in the 20-45 yard range is my common distance. One will be for my Crosman Nitro Venom Dusk 22 and the other for my Crosman NPS TR77 177 Cal......

I have spent too much time and wasted too many shot cards and pellets dialing in these Centerpoints only to have them do well for a short time and then go wacky again. I know its not the rifles, they group just fine. I know its a hobby/sport so I am not too grumpy about it, but its time to do away with these junky Centerpoints

The problem could be what the air rifle is doing to the scope - I.e. breaking it. Some scopes aren't made to take the punishment of springer air rifles. Something about the 2-direction recoil. Effected scopes seem to lose their ability to hold zero. You need to start with a list of scopes that are recommend for springers.

I wouldn't assume that a scope that comes "free" with a springer is automatically capabile of withstanding the recoil. Free scopes are rarely any good.

Btw, there is a world of difference between the centerpoints that come free with a $80 Walmart springer and some of the ones they sell separately. Centerpoint actually make some decent scopes for the money. I remember the Centerpoint that came free with my first Walmart springer, it was like looking through a glass jar. It had a similar level of light transmission as the blackout blinds in my bedroom...
