3D printer recommendation

This said, 3D printers ARE pretty handy for us, airgunners. From scope mounts to single shot trays and side wheels ...
So, if you are on the market for a 3D printer - save yourself some time and money and get PrintBot Simple Metal. for $600 you get a self leveling bed, very solid construction, a compact package capable of descent size prints.
A step up would be a $1700 Maker Gear M2. if you need larger prints (rare case) and ABS printing capability.
I've worked with a dozen different printers, some as expensive as $300,000 - and I would recommend above two vs other types w/o hesitation.

I owned a rep rap and we self replicated about 40 of them before I sold it. I stopped printing things and a buddy wanted it more than I did so IO sold it to him. I will be getting another 3D printer in the near future as my 4 children are into various projects and get a kick out of drawing in cad to make characters and objects. I want to help them bring them to 'life' .

Something else to consider would be to have a company like Shapeways or similar print the designs you make for you on their high end printers. They give you different options of materials to use and are pretty quick in the turn around times.
