I have been on the fence for the past four months over which pellets to shoot at EBR in my .30 FX Bobcat Mk2. I’ve been shooting the 44.75s for a year until this past Summer when I started shooting the 50.1s. The 44.75s are at 885 FPS, the 50.1s are about 855 FPS. My decision was based on the significantly higher BC of the Heavies and also on recommendation of a few very good shooters that shoot .30 Bobcat/Boss.
Well, today I shot four 5 shot groups first with the 50.1s. I thought they were pretty good, and showed them to LD, our “club pro”. He asked “didn’t we shoot different pellets this past Spring in that gun when we were shooting lights out?” FYI, I had placed 18 2” stick on targets on the steel plate at 100 yards at our Airgun club. We both shot one mag in fairly breezy conditions (9 shot mags), and we both hit all 9 in a row. Yep, lights out...
So LD says go back and shoot four 5 shot groups with those pellets. (44.75s). The below photo confirms why I am shifting back to the 44.75 pellets.
I mentioned BC and was poo poo’d by LD. So what if the wind moves one pellet 4 inches and the other pellet 3 inches? Your most accurate pellet will be more consistent and always move the 4 inches in that wind. Your less consistent and less accurate might move 2.5 one time and 3.5 the next. Which one do you think you’ll score best with if you read the wind correctly?.... Thanks LD, lesson learned. Accuracy always trumps BC..
