The mongoose here in Hawaii are considered pest, I myself have not heard of them attacking humans, but they do attack our native endangered birds. Also any baby animals they will try to eat.

I was told years ago they were put there to kill the snakes on the island. They have a fierce reputation as a hunter/ killer of all smaller animals. It’s funny if they were put there to kill rats because the look like a giant tree rat themselves. Good shooting have fun.

Well the person who told you they were brought to the islands to kill snakes were wrong, lucky we live in Hawaii because we don't have snakes here and its illegal to have one. But yes the mongoose were brought here to kill the rats.
