Over the last couple of years, I have tried about every slug that has come out, working to see if they would perform any better, from an accuracy perspective, in my Ken Hicks' tuned RAW, than the JSB King Heavy 33.95 grain slugs it was designed to shoot and tuned to.
To date, none of the slugs tried has come close to matching the accuracy performance of the JSB King Heavy pellets out to 100 yards.
Reviewing the various Youtube videos regarding the FX Hybrids, I ordered a 100 each in .22 (to try in my RW HP) and .25 to try in my RAW.
Today was test day for the RAW. The wind was variable and swirling around some between 3 and 5 mph. I started on my indoor range (18 yards) with the chronograph to compare the basic data. You can see the Chrono info on photos 2, 3, and 5 as found below.
I then proceeded to the outdoor range and fire test groups at 50 yards and 87 yards.
The elevation drop was less with the slugs, but only slightly, with not as much difference as I thought there would be given the video hype.
The good news - the FX slugs shot closer to the King Heavy pellets in terms of accuracy, than anything I have tried to date. The bad news, they were not as accurate as the pellets over all, even at 87 yards (the farthest I can shoot at my home range). Understanding they may have more terminal killing power due to penetration and expansion capabilities, most of my shooting is at paper and steel where accuracy is most important. So I will continue to buy pellets for less money, but it was a fun experiment.
One more thing, the slugs definitely foul the barrel faster. I had to stop mid test to clean my barrel, as all of a sudden, the pellets started spraying more like a shotgun than a rifle. Once I cleaned the barrel, it was right back to performing as it should.
Every shot was fired from a sandbag on a bench under ideal conditions.
