.25 Daystate Wolverine HP R with ART barrel

Ok here’s a very good gun that seems to be forgotten with all the new guns and electronics and semi/full autos and stuff...

The Daystate Wolverine HP R, gorgeous stocks, amazing trigger, easy side lever cocking, accurate Huma reg, ART barrel.

So when Robert B of AoA asked me to test it out of course I said hell yeah! The gun I tested was a gorgeous grey laminate stock, but the photo below is my brother in law John’s Wolverine. I thought he won the stock lottery until I realized that all of them are this good looking.

Well, I received the gun in the mail just after Christmas. I put a nice scope on it a week later, and after cleaning the barrel, took it out for some groups. I shot it at 50 and 65 yards with Mk2 heavies at around 865 FPS.

And although not bad, I wasn’t impressed.

So I got busy with work and other travel, a few weeks pass, and I decide to take it out again yesterday one more time before I return the gun. And looking the gun over, I notice a little “wiggle” in the shroud. Hmmm, has it been like this since I got the gun? Turns out the two set screws that hold the shroud collar must have become loose in transit to me or something. So I remove them, put a dab of Vibra Tite on each one and tighten them up. And screw the shroud back on. Rock solid.

Off to the range I go...

with a tin of Mk1 and Mk2 heavies. I first shoot both at 50 (stacking) and then at 65 yards (still stacking). Wind is 9 mph from my 10:30 shifting to my 1:30 and back with the occasional gust. Ok big boy, let’s go to 94 yards (max on this property). Two ten shot groups at 94 yards, one Mk2 and one Mk1 JSB Heavy .25 caliber. These are the only two groups I shot at 94 yards, since I had to get back to watch KC whoop up on SF. The left side I used the foster fill dust cover for reference since it’s about the size of a penny, and I only had one penny. Before I shot the first group, the Wolverine looked at me and said “I’m here to kick a$$ and chew bubble gum. And I’m all outta gum...”

Objectively speaking, I think the Mk1 did better but need more testing to evaluate. Shooting 25 shots with this accuracy at EBR would have won Pro Class by a ten point margin. This was shot prone off a bag with rear rest. Do you like the ART barrel in this gun? I certainly do... And it’s subjectively the best looking airgun currently in production.
