.25 Cricket accuracy at 90 yards

Bought an older used .25 Cricket here on AGN classifieds last week. Thanks Robert. Took it out yesterday after cleaning it up a bit, chrony 960 FPS with JSB Kings and 850 FPS with Mk2 Heavies. Shot string from the Ernest tune in 2015 is pretty amazing with a very small SD and ES.

Shot some to sight it in at 45 yards, then moved it back to 90 yards. After getting the feel of the gun, shot the following groups with the JSB Kings, which could both be covered with a quarter. Six shot groups. Yep, it’s a shooter...

I purchased a Charlie's (Georgia airgun) Power tuned Cricket .25 pup in 2016. I absolutely love it. It is my main hunting rig. They are amazing and not pellet picky. I paper punch with JSB MKI or MKII 34gr. and hunt with H&N grizzlies. I just sent mine back to Charlie last week to get a Sumo installed and port and polish transfer port to get a little more efficient. Should get it back this week. Can't wait to get my baby back. I have owned & sold many rifles, but this one is a Keeper as well. Example- There was 2 guys shooting at the 100yd rifle range with a 223 & 300 blackout. I told them I could shoot better groups than them with my air rifle. They said go get it. I was right. Shot my Cricket @ 100yds 5 shot group less than 1/2". They were shocked! One of the guys shot it and was amazed how well it shot. Lol. No regrets on this purchase.

@joewaynerhea, thanks Joe! How's it coming with that .25 Bantam? Awesome looking gun!!!

@eyeshot.25, Derek, the Kings gave slightly better accuracy than the MK2 Heavy or the AA 25.4 grain. The MK2 Heavies were shooting at 850 FPS, Kings at 960 FPS. I didn't have any of the MK1 available. Perhaps if I installed the power plenum, which according to Ernest would increase velocity about 50 FPS with no other changes to the HST or Valve Spring, it might be more accurate with heavies at 900 FPS. Its an easy upgrade, less than an hour. But those Kings at 960 FPS are as accurate as they come. This old used Cricket is almost as accurate as the .30 FX Bobcat Mk2 I shot at EBR. Although with that gun those six shots would be able to be covered by a nickel, not a quarter...

;)

Well crap, it didn't last long... When I was shooting Sunday morning, one of the ranchers stopped by (his father in law Danny bought my .22 Renegade a while back), and shot the Cricket with me at 45 yards. Then I shot those 90 yards groups, and asked him (Ron) if he wanted to try. So I told him where to holdover, and since there was no wind, it was straight stick. So he shoots a couple mags, hits the 2 inch targets the majority of the time, and asks "how much?" I told him and now its sold after I install a pic rail, DonnyFL modified side plate, and the biathlon lever I always put on Crickets, plus print a couple range cards for 10X and 20X with the Kings at 960 FPS (scope is 6-24x). He gets it this Sunday morning. Oh well, I wasn't going to put it in the permanent side of my gun safe like the .30 Bobcat and .22 Cricket mini, but at least I thought I'd be shooting it for a couple of months...

@sonny, the Cricket is ready for delivery. Added pic rail, bipod, biathlon cocking handle, bubble level, hard loop on pic rail for one point sling, and DonnyFL sideplate. Trigger breaks crisply and light, around 8 ounces. Cleaned and lubed all pivot points, replaced barrel and magazine (2) orings. Shoots JSB Kings at 960 FPS. ES less than 8 FPS. Very accurate and a hammer. The ground squirrels at Ron’s ranch are in big trouble...

Got mine today. Scope mounted sighted in. Didn't have time to shoot groups. Shot into my duct seal. That ain't gonna work. Drives those pellet in over an inch. Clearly it hits. HARD. Only thing I don't think much of is the safety on this gun. First it's location and then the fact that when red is showing the safe is on. Any gun I've ever owned red showing means it's hot. I fixed that any one interested I'll explain how.

Very favorable reports for Charles Frear. Gun set up and delivered pretty close to his time estimate. I think its going to do exactly what I want it to do which is hammer the pigeons so I'm not having many fly off to die later.

Might get to test it out tomorrow.
