.22 Taipan Veteran Sniper?

First of all big shout out to MtnGhost. He is such a asset to airgun community!

Got my taipan veteran long .22 from Utah Airguns and it was pretty sweet. Shot very good with Hades, fx 25gr and hn 18gr pellets. 3/4 inch to 1/2 groups are the norm with the factory CZ barrel at 50-60 yards.

Went through a short financial crisis and almost parted ways with the gun and then I got to keep it and I'm glad I did.

I asked Gino about the FX barrel adapter he makes for the Veteran and luckily at the time, he had time to make me one. I love the veteran platform and I love FX barrels, so seem like the perfect marriage. Lol

Here it is with a 600mm Impact barrel installed. I am using the factory Vet Long Shroud. It all went together without a hitch!

Now the Taipan is shooting all the same pellets even better. And slugs are now a possibility! So far I've only tried 17.5 gr .217 NSA slugs and they were nearly hole in hole at 25 yards. Can't wait to test further distances.

I believe I could even install a power plenum on the gun and not have the air tube protrude past the end of the shroud. That may be in the works soon.

Happy shooting AGN!

Bought the Impact barrel from Alamo Airguns in San Antonio, TX.

Got some groups for yall guys finally, 5 shot groups at 70 yards in inconsistent wind. I am using the Athlon Helos BTR Gen2 2-12 scope. DairyBoy and his compact veteran gave me inspiration to buy this scope. Love the reticule! That electric pole is 90 yards away. Scope is at 12x.

18gr FX pellets going 915fps. This is a used target, groups of the Taipan with FX barrel are circled. You can see the wind pushed the pellets a bit. All shots single loaded with except the group off the target on the cardboard. That was my best group probably since I shot those in the same wind because I used the magazine that time.

Tanto is on the way so I can put the fill port cover back in. Love this gun.

BTW, If you're using plenum extensions, I can make some shroud extensions in black Delrin that have a 1/2-20" male thread with 7075 aluminum. It brings the end of the shroud past the air tube, so you can either run a moderator of any size or just not have a weird looking rifle lol.

Pictures are probably better than trying to explain it..

Bring Back this thread on my Taipan Vet Long.

Now equipped with a 700mm fx impact barrel, using the standard superior liner. It even has a plenum extension that I acquired in the classifieds.

I had the reg turned up to 140-145bar and it was sending 25.4gr pellets at 960-970 max. After plenum installed, I turned the reg down to 130 or so. Still sending 25.4gr pellets at 960fps.

Instead of a Taipan Veteran Long, I think I should call it the Taipan Veteran Sniper.

Love bullpups! Gun with moderator is only 39 inches long.

Mr H,

I never shoot without the moderator. However when I attached the fx chrony it did alter my POI. So it can droop slightly. Without any moderator, I doubt there is droop at all. It is threaded into the breech and then clamped into place.

TX,

My taipan with fx barrel is slightly more accurate than the M3 I had. At least consistency is better. However both were lazers. My M3 has since Transformed into a leshiy 2.

Nice build!!!

"I had the reg turned up to 140-145bar and it was sending 25.4gr pellets at 960-970 max. After plenum installed, I turned the reg down to 130 or so. Still sending 25.4gr pellets at 960fps."

For those speeds are you running a heavier hammer spring, and if so, would you mind sharing the spring specs (or is it simply the talon tunes spring) ? Or valve modifications?

Thanks.

Franklink,

I'm not running a heavy hammer spring. I am using the oem spring with 1 nylon shim that sits on the HS adjuster. No valve modifications.

When I was at 140-145 Bar reg pressure, I felt the hammer was too light to open the valve. I was able to make good power however I had 2 shims on the HS adjuster.

Now with the 700mm barrel and larger plenum, the gun is a smooooooth operator. The Lower reg pressure is allowing me to use more of the plenum and take advantage of this long barrel.

Dairyboy,

I still have my helos, it now lives on my leshiy2. Love the scope. I bought one because of your taipan build. The reticule is awesome!

Bud,

I never say never. One day it might be on the classifieds again. But for now it's staying. This is my 2nd taipan I've equipped with a 700mm barrel. The first was a 700mm cz barrel which was disappointing. And heavy!

The fx barrel is much light than cz barrel. I weighed myself then weighed myself again holding the gun. Gun with the arken scope weighs 10.6lbs.

Dairyboy,

Yea it fits the leshiy perfect. I ended up trading my M3 for the leshiy 2 and accessories. I lucked out because there is no way I could have bought a leshiy the way this one is equipped. $2k is my absolute limit. so far no regrets and it is very accurate. 60 shots at 30fpe from a 250 bar fill.

Enjoy that vixen! I really line the design of that gun.
