.177 BC testing (AA vs. JSB)

Here are the numbers:

Rifle RWS 34
Pellet 1.5y 28.5y BC 48.5y BC
JSB 8.4 806 644 .0144 577 .0161
AA 8.4 808 707 .0252 643 .0243

JSB 10.3 714 632 .0256 577 .0247
AA 10.3 712 634 .0269 578 .0252

What's interesting is a pretty significant difference between the 8.4 grain pellets. As you will see below the retained velocity on the Air Arms versions of the 8.4 is significantly higher at both distances. The 10.3 grain pellets were essentially the same.

And since everything was set up I ran some JSB 18s at these distances:

Rifle Royale 400
Pellet 1.5y 28.5y BC 48.5y BC
JSB 18.1 882 799 .0375 754 .0387

Sirk, I'll have to get back to you on the tin details, but here's a pic from the target. The bottom left are the AA heavies and the bottom right are the JSB heavies (each 50 yard 5-shot groups). They're pretty similar. And the 30 yard groups are 10 shots each. The first 6-7 shots darn near went into the same hole. I would have to say that the JSBs heavies beat out the AAs. PA has the AAs for $2 less per tin than the JSBs.

If your 10.34 JSB's are any thing like what I have gotten lately they are no were near the 4.52 size that is marked on the tins red sticker, I have sized and measured over 8000 of them in the last few months and have only found a small handful maybe 20 or so that were as marked 4.52 in the tins, most are 4.49 4.50 and the remainder are smaller yet! You will find that that is the reason that they are faster at the muzzle because they fit the barrel looser.
It appears your gun likes the Air Arms pellets as that is your best group by far ! Get your self a PELLET GAGE and you will be disappointed like me when you find out how inconsistent the so-posed " BEST" pellets are !! I don't know what the problem is ,weather its bad dies or careless Quality control but it sure is frustrating to me as my rifle shoots best with a 4.52 pellet with out question !!
Its not like they cant make good pellets as I have about 7 tins of the 13.34 JSB's all from the same lot and found only 14 pellets from all of the tins that were not 4.52 and they were 4.51!! Oh well RANT over!!! good post! sorry I got a little of the subject!! J.L.
