160yd silo shot on a feral pigeon!

Personal best, good job brotha! That's some nice shooting for sure, especially in full value wind! Is that the Nightforce SHV?

I'm getting ready to buy a new scope and am having a hard time deciding between the Nightforce 5-20x56 SHV F1, the Bushnell Forge 4.5-27x50 or the Burris XTRII 5-25x50. I can get the Burris XTRII new for about $600 which is a steal, but I really want to try the SHV F1, I just don't want to spend that much money. What do you think of your Nightforce so far?

Have a great weekend Bob

Thanks guys!

Dale,

Your slugs are a huge part of the equation in shots like this!

Kevin,

I don't have much experience outside of Hawke and Athlon. FFP is nice, but I'm really enjoying the finer reticle of the SFP scope. Yes, SHV. I have zero regrets spending so much for this scope.....it is quality inside and out....the performance of it is amazing.

I don't hold for elevation anymore so FFP isn't as much an advantage. Also I like the finer reticle when using higher magnification. Since I plan on doing a lot of long range shooting that was important to me. Though I still hold on the reticle for wind, with the long range shots there's normally time to do the calculation.

Excellent shot!

Bob, can you explain more on why you don't hold for elevation anymore? Is it because now you dial it?

Yes, I dial elevation for every shot, which was the main reason I went with a high-end scope that could handle it.

So instead of holding 25MOA on the reticle, I just dialed 100 clicks, which happened to be exactly 2 1/2 turns on my scope.

LOL Bob, I watched that several times and my first reaction was you didn't hit the one you were aiming at but of course you did. Great shooting.

My best shot is about 1/3 of your's BUT I'm working at it. I nailed a groundhog at 441 yards last week (223) He gave me two shots. Had a guy spotting for me and it was one of those windless days. Had to wait about 45 minutes for the second shot but you know that's the fun of it. My first shot was about 4 inches low so I knew what to do. Pigeons are pretty smart too. I've seen them land on the back side of the silo's by the bunch.

It's a real challenge. I haven't found a spot for pigeons that I can shoot that far off. The silo's in my area have aluminum tops for the most part and I know if I shoot something fast and hard enough to kill the pigeon it's going to penetrate the roof so I can't shoot like you are. ( and I do miss unfortunately ) . I have to try to catch them sitting on "safe spot"

The one place I shoot the most at is all concrete with I assume a poured or cast top. That's a great place to shoot at but I can't back up.

Great shot.
