Umarex Zelos Safety Selector Issue

Was out snuffing ground squirrels the other day and had my safety selector securing screw start to back out on me. The selector switch would not hold the position selected - flopping back/forth between safe & fire. Didn't have any allen wrenches with me but I was able to push/twist/tighten the screw enough with the tip of a finger to make the safety work again.

Removed the screw when I got back home & reinstalled with a tiny dab of blue Loctite - now my rifle will not fire with action cocked and safety in the Fire position. Obviously, I got the safety lever out of time/position when I put it back on. How do I go about fixing this?

just use the Allen key and take it back out, blue lock tight should be easy enough.. once you get it sorted out just use the blue locktite again.

I've never even touched a Zellos so I have no suggestion other than to look for a tear down video that shows the safety. It may give you some ideas. Have you tried manually releasing the sear? Sometimes I get the clamping yokes on my P35s mispositioned and the trigger won't work. To make the gun more safe I manually decock it by actuating the sear while holding onto the cocking lever. Then I reposition the cocking yokes until it works properly. Is it possible the issue is with the trigger mechanism and not just the safety? On my P35s all the safety does is block the trigger from being pulled. I've successfully messed the trigger up enough that the safety wouldn't work at all. I do not know the Zelos but on bullpups there has to be a mechanism to transfer the trigger motion to the sear. There must be an issue of some sort in that linkage on your Zellos.

You will need to loosen the safety scew enough to be able to rotate the safety cylinder in front of the trigger. Rotate it until you can pull the trigger with the screw and lever loose. Pull and hold the trigger back, position the safety lever in the "fire" position (keeping the trigger back) and tighten the screw. Do not overtighten the screw, as you will not be able to move the safety lever. Just snug... hope this helps!

Thanks, Dave. Man, took me at least 10 minutes of futzing with it before I got it back in the correct position. I did use a little dab of Blue Loctite on the tip of the screw threads so hopefully it won't happen again. Question - would putting an orientation mark on both the end of the silver safety cylinder where it protrudes from the opposite side of the receiver and the side of the receiver itself be of any help should the screw loosen again?

LR Plinker and Norcal,
Thanks for bringing this potential issue and the fix out.

I'm a big fan of the AR grips that have a lid or cap on them. I keep tools... hex/torx wrenches for tightening the scope and attending the misc. screws that might need tightening, usually only 2 or 3 are needed, I put them in a small zip lock in the grip. I'll check to see which wrench is needed for the safety and add that to the mix.

Jerry
