Here are the initial results from shooting the Zan ELR Hyper Line sugs from the other day. As I usally do, I did forget something wen I went to the range - my Chrony! So all the shots were at each guns normal tune which most were pellets and 2 were slugs. Here's the quick story:
- Red Wolf : set on high power groups at 25 yards were for hunting and plinking All shots single loaded
- Alpha Wolf: set to shoot JSB MKII Deep at 930fps. Slugs shot at 448fps Grouping not even worth plinking All shots single loaded
- DRS Classic: set to shoot 33g H&N Precision slugs at 1018fps, Hunting and plinking
- Evol Tac 22: set to shoot 20.2 JSB at 980fps. Hunting and plinking All shots single loaded
- Taipan 550: set to shoot JTS 25g at 945fps, best grouping of all, Possible target use All shots single loaded
- Taipan 700 set to shoot 25g KOs at 1034fps Hunting and plinking All shots single loaded
Observations - The slugs would not feed from the Evol magazine. They barely fit due to the length. The pellet pusher would start the load but then get stuck and I had to remove the magazine to finish loading the pellet. They fit and fed fine in the DRS magazine. The biggest problem I had was making sure I put the slug in the correct way! The hollow point tips have the yellow covering so you can see the indentation but it's not far off from the flat back end. The slugs are definitely "slicker" than regular slugs. I found that I had to be more careful handling them so I didn't drop them! I will get a box on the .218s and give them a test on the guns. The slugs are very easy to see in flight and for those who like to record kill shots, these will be exceptional!
The posted videos were taken shotting at targets at 25 yards. Both scopes were Hikmicros. The Evol used the Alpex 4k and the Taipan 550 used the Alpex 4k lite. I set the record speed on the 4k lite to 100 fps. The 4K regular only does 50fps. Both recordings were reduced to 720p as they would be too large to upload. At 1080p they are exceptionally clear. I editied the Evol clip because I had to hand load each shot and it took a long time, so I just left the actual shots rather than make everyone motion sick!
I used an Accu-tac bipod on each gun and either a PRQ rear fixed rest or a sandbag that I use in bench shooting. I aimed at the same spot to get a grouping, not adjusting any scopes. I did some 50 yard shots, but they opened up even more than the 25. Didn't bother with 100 yard at this point without tuning.
