Youtube lessons

I am new to air guns. I wore out several BB guns when I was a kid but nothing like we have today. So when I start anything I try to learn all I can, thats where Youtube comes in. I have gotten some great advice and some I don't know about. That being said I have four rifles(cheap) three shoot very well with a certain pellets. I am happy to have good shooting guns but along the way I got several tins of pellets that don't shoot. I have washed ,lubed.changed hold everything I know to do. They just don't shoot.

Then while I was looking at Youtube I saw a video about your barrel accumulate to the pellet. Is this even possible? How many pellets must one shoot to for you gun to decide it likes the pellets you put in it? This video praises Crossman pellets. My guns don't like Crossman pellets no matter how many I shoot.

What are your thoughts on this subject.

If JSB and H&N quit making pellets I will have some rifles for sale

All gun barrel preferences are different even if you own up to 12 of them in same caliber. Pellet preference vary and I am pleased when they like Cheap Crosman pellets from Wal-Mart.

Pellet YouTube videos probably believable not like Crosman sponsoring them for a BS review unlike guns and scopes.

If your gun can't group the pellets even after cleaning your barrel and then shooting 60 rounds to lead up the barrel then test 10 shot groups then keep on changing to a different pellet till you find the most acceptable ones. They vary from lot to lot too and you can get a bad batch some day. You will know what I mean when later on down the line you buy a tin of those favorite pellets and you think your gun is broken because it throws fliers everywhere.

Yeah, YO, it shouldn't be that way, but I'm not ready to swage my own pellets/ slugs — sooo, I got to live with that batch stupidity.... 😖

Someone recommended to keep a good supply of your gun's "favorite pellets" in stock — for those times when you think your gun is broken because it throws fliers everywhere.....

Just get them favorite pellets out, shoot 'em and eliminate the stupidity-variable of different pellet batches.... 👍🏼

Great replies but The question is can your barrel accumulate it self to a pellet it does not shoot well. I have shot half of a tin of a brand of pellet with no improvement.

I don't see how it is possible. If a pellets shoots well that is great but to shoot a pellet it does not shoot hoping it will get to like them make no sense. The barrel don't have feelings.

if your airgun does not shoot/group a certain pellet well after say 50 shots or so, (this will help eliminate variables induced by the shooter) it will not start magically improving just because you shot 250 rounds through it of the same pellet.
Like my Grandpa would say “If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got”

It is difficult to even guess a definitive solution for you without even knowing what kind of gun and caliber.

You can mildly reshape the pellets in an attempt to force them to shoot good in your gun Like how some people do with reject bad batch pellets using a ball peen hammer a BB and a partially drilled metal thick chunk of steel.

Yes that is the word. I don't use words like that as a rule. In my world it would be "get used too" but I heard it used on Youtube and I thought it sounded fancy.

The question is to be about any gun. Crossman pellets don't shoot well in either of my four rifles. 2 .177 and 2.22s. I have tried them over and over. I have cleaned barrels .cleaned pellets, lubed pellets, waxed pellets, tried to make a tool to seat the pellets. and bought Pellet Pens to seat pellets. They still don't shoot. However for the folks on Youtube are getting great groups, even shooting playing cards side ways. It is not just Crossman pellets I have a bunch of other pellets the don't shoot. I buy pellets to try hoping they will shoot. After years of shooting I don't think hitting a beer can at 10 yards is very good. I was told that I was expecting too much but I don't think so.

I was hoping there was a secret out there I was not told.I was not trying to labor the point for extra mileage. Just a new guy trying to learn. I reckon the secret if any is to find the pellet your rifle likes shoot them and not worry the tins that don't want to behave.

Thanks for the replies

God Bless

Hi Bob. 1st things 1st.Welcome to AGN. I saw your post this morning but had to leave for work. I understand the ?. And it's a good 1. I watched a video by AirGunDepot back in Oct 2018 where the fella named Travis was reviewing a break-barrel SIG ASP20: Titled, "A High-Power Accurate Break Barrel Built By SIG". U should check it out,I thought it was pretty good review. In it he experienced where after changing to a different pellet type or brand his 1st shot would be outside an otherwise very good group. He even mentions this in the review but leaves it up to the viewers for consideration. I think the theory holds water myself. And so when I do switch pellets or brands, even from tin to tin of the same (say JSB 18.13 gr). I will sacrifice 2 shots before I take a (5 shot for group) test or confirmation.
