Your thoughts on air gun "silencers"?

I have a Gamo Tac with a really short "silencer" on the front - 1 1/2" from the end of the actual barrel to where it exits the end. I can cover up 5 shots with a dime off a solid bench at 20 yards.

I just finished with the M-Carbo trigger kit on my grandson's Benjamin - dropped the trigger pull from 7 1/2# to 3 1/2#. But I could barely keep 5 shots inside a 2" bull at the same 20 yards off the bench.

I decided to pull the front off and it's 5" from the end of the barrel to where it exits the end cap. This "silencer" is made of plastic and I wonder just how concentrate is is. Wouldn't take much to have unequal pressure as the pellet exits.

If it was my rifle I'd seriously think about drilling that end cap hole a bit larger to minimize the ability of the crown to throw off the shot.

Spring or piston gun silencers are mostly a waste in my opinion. The firing mechanism makes more sound then the air exiting anyway. And as to your question i would think with the relatively low pressure of a spring/piston guns air at the end of the barrel, the pellet would be out of the "silencer" before that turbulance would be an issue.

Plus you are talking about two different guns and really cant compare accuracy concerns and relate it to the size of the silencer.
