Your most accurate PCP rifle for first shot accuracy

As a backdoor gun, the .22 Vet Short never lets me down. What are you expecting to shoot that requires a .25? I don’t own the .25 so I can’t personally opine. Some members, like @blackpaw have one and report great accuracy with them. My .22 can shoot from 22 to about 34fpe and is capable of taking down a fox sized animal with the right shot placement.

I shoot mostly large collard doves, magpies, jackrabbits, prairie dogs, skunks, and raccoons. The raccoons are especially tough, and with snowflake neighbors nearby, the last thing I need is an injured animal in their yard, so deader is better.

I should have mentioned, price is no object.

Well then if money was no object then just Have Tim at MAC1 build you an UNREGULATED MAC1 USFT or Martin Rutherford Build an UNREGULATED HM1000X.

Post a WTB for am UNREGULATED Brocock Bantam HiLite 22 expect to pay $600 or less shipped. You will never miss your first shot with this one for sure or the Benjamin Maximus 22 or Hatsan Flash or Vectis 22.

I have zero interest in a custom gun. Last thing I want is to look for parts for a custom gun. I am not a competitive shooter, just a hunter who wants a reliable first shot gun (assuming I do my part) from a reputable, servicing stateside dealer manufacturer.

We have several that are pretty similar but the standouts over the years are(no particular order) :

Daystate CRX ST, Theoben R17 Mk1 , ProTarget, USFT, Daystate Wolverine R, and Daystate Tsar... all in 177. In 22, the EVOL is a true standout, as well as Career 707,, and my current Red Wolf 22 Hp.. All of these have in common a free floated barrel with solid support and either no regulator or a good regulator. The C707 may be an anomaly but has ALWAYS been perfect. Another commonality with most of these is the Bausch and Lomb or Bushnell 4200s. Impeccably dependable scopes.

Lots of really nice rifles out there....

I have an FX Royale 400 that if fantastic. I was shooting it from 23 yards today and every hit was in the red.

+ 1.

So are the lowly unregulated Kral Puncher Maxi in .22, the Kral Puncher in .25, and the Gamo Chacal in .22. And the .22 Kral Empire will meet the challenge as well.

I am with Odoyle. This challenge can be met easily at 40-60 yds for 300 - 600 smackers with some intelligent selectivity. Spending big bucks, by contrast, is all too easy.

Raccoons are tough AF! No kidding there. I feel that a .22 can do it all. Even a raccoon, but a coon will need a really well placed shot to the noggin. A .25 would be better, but if you don’t put it where it counts, it may not make a difference. I once had to put over 5 shots into one with my PT Kalibrgun using Polymags. All because I didn’t have the proper lighting or night gear. But I have seen where Tim from Edgun Leshiy channel just drops them in place with the proper equipment. Good luck in your search.

Anything over $500.

If only this was true. The Impact is about 4x this price point and most of the ones I've owned had reg creep to some degree.

I know Carl (the OP) has many fine rifles over $500 so if he's asking the question, he's likely seen some issues with them as well so it's not as simple as just buying a more expensive rifle.

The entire AG industry thrives on this fallacy. Too many people are willing to part with $$$$ for what the marketing (and the tinkerers and power hungry) tells them is the "newest best thing".

HPA to drive a pellet or slug accurately does not have to cost an arm and a leg. But, the marketing hype and AG (high power especially) fanatics would have you believe this is true. (heavy sigh)

Just thinking out loud and not trying to twist anyone's barrel... (grin)

My third hand traded for Huntsman unregulated .177 hands down...I would put it up against anything out there, (I always wanted to say that, lol!) by FAR my least expensive airgun and least powerful, shoots the JSB 10's around 825fps. I shot these groups one calm hot muggy summer evening, two 10 shot groups @ 25 with two different pellets and two 10 shot groups @ 55 with the 10.34 JSB's...with a 12× Vortex scope! Of the thousands of groups I've shot over the years these are the ones I'm happiest with, with a higher power scope I think it would do even better, first shot is always "right there" too, I have an unregulated Rapid 12 that I used for years and years to "remove" English sparrows from my blue bird houses, small target needing pinpoint precision with the first shot, I took many with their head just

sticking out of the box hole...something to be said for unregulated guns! The "wad" of pellets is a 90 shot @ 25yd complete fill (200b to 100b) shot string shot sitting in my deck chair off my knee...this Huntsman has made me a believer in Daystate products.

From a logical standpoint I believe a less accurate gun would have the most perseivable stable POI. If one gun shoots in the same hole at 20 meters, it will be noticable if the POI shifts 5mm the next day. But if another gun groups half an inch at 20 yards, it will not be as noticable if the overal grouping change the same ammount, as the POI will be hidden by the overal group size.

@chuckhunter James, I was reading on your review of this gun and saw the reg pressure, accuracy, etc. Didn’t see speeds, have you chronied?

It's not a power house...an average of 815fps with Kings! But it's a great hunting gun out to 50/60 yards with plenty of punch for squirrels and rabbits...and it's just so comfortable to shoot...

@chuckhunter Thanks for the info. I’m not really into a powerhouse gun, although my Cricket fills that gap. I have been researching lately the larger caliber-low power combo. The Huntsman is very comfortable for sure. Had one in .22, sold it, should have kept it. Have you tried the 34gr King-Heavy?

Yes and there just as accurate ( haven't run them over the chrony) also tried some barracuda hunters I had on hand and shot those to the same zero too...its all around pretty impressive for a little weight hunter...I've been contemplating putting a sling on it...but having a hard time making myself drill that nice walnut...lol.

I have a Regal HR in .20 cal also that is really impressive! Its shooting the 15.89 heavies at 880 and a laser too...

My 20 year old CRXst because as a former Open PCP FT shooter the first shot must count as a hit. BTW it still shoots as good as ever..

2nd is my TX200 with FT stock or the blondie for FT springer class. Also 20 years old.

Both have a history of winning overall state championships against Steyr ZMLG 100,, USFT , Anschutz 2002, Steyr 1PFT, Venom HW97 which were just as accurate.
