You'll shoot your eye out

72 degrees here in South Carolina and I had a case of cabin fever. Took the Red Rider out in the yard, needed a low tech respite from the hub-bub of the busy Christmas season. The first thought at Christmas time is the Christmas Story, and Ralphie. I put my high tech Coke can in front of my shooting bench, and started skittering the can across the yard, shot count was however many I wanted to shoot till I got tired of shootin, or till I ran out of light, or till the can wouldn't move any more, or..... In this case, it was kind of a case of ran out of can and distance and time, there's almost no can left, 60+ feet, and the lighting was getting a little too low for old folks eyes. The can is almost cut in two or three pieces, and shredded.

I had more fun with that can than I thought I could have with a bb gun, I understand Ralphie's attraction to that "Red Ryder" rifle, I've ordered an adult sized Red Ryder so I can get a chance to maybe see that joy in my great-grand-daughters before I go home.

I got one last year and I have so much fun with it. But I almost did shoot my eye out!!! I shot at a target pinned to plywood. I watched the BB, in one of those slow-motion moments, fly down range, hit the target, bounce back, and hit me right in the upper eyelid. A bit scary. Stung like a bastard. And left a nasty red mark. But I still have my eye.
