MIDDLE RIVER, MD — Police said a 15-year-old boy died after being shot with a pellet gun Thursday night near Middle River. The case is under investigation.

The teen was hit in the chest with a round or a fragment of a round while he and a friend were shooting targets with a pellet rifle in the backyard of Dogwood Drive, police said.

Crews were called to the unit block of Dogwood Drive around 6:48 p.m. on Thursday for a report of a person with a gunshot wound and found the boy in the backyard in cardiac arrest, officials said.

Despite medics working to save his life as he was en route to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, police said he was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
