Yong Heng troubleshooting -- wont build pressure

Hi All,

I bought a Yong Heng a couple months ago and set it up to run for the first time today. When I turned on the compressor, I let it run for almost 10 minutes and noticed it wasn't building up any pressure.

I made sure to close both bleed screws on the sides of the Yong Heng, but that's about much as I know how to do to for trouble shooting.

Do I need to take this thing apart and replace an o-ring somewhere? Am I missing a bleed screw somewhere?

Thanks

Most likely leaking at a fitting but check the low pressure safety valve also.

Did you close BOTH high pressure and drain valves? Yo!

Thanks Yo. I think so? I closed both bleed valves on both sides as tightly as I could.

If you have closed the bleed valves as tightly as you could, you will have damaged the seat of the nylon sealing washer. The bleed screw should only be nipped up enough to make a seal. Tighter is not better! There should be a couple of replacements in the spare parts bag.

My own experience is that 99.999% of the reasons for Yong Heng failing to build up pressure is leakage, often occurring at external parts such as hose connectors and filters. If the compressor fails to build up any pressure, the leakage should be bad enough to be detectable by ears. Put your finger next to possible points of leakage such as connectors, fittings, valves, etc. The leakage point is where the hissing sound changes as you move your finger close and away from the point.

As mentioned by other respondents above, NEVER apply excessive force in closing the bleed valves on the compressor. You can easily damage the plastic sealing washer inside. The rebuild kit that came with the compressor has got spares. Replace them if necessary. Here is the washer :

Thanks all!! The gauge wasnt moving at all and will post a pic.

I tried all the tips I got and I think it was the output seal! I'm still checking but I had the output going to an external filter and it wasnt creating a good seal. I put the original external filter on first and it creates a tighter seal. I'm just waiting on some parts now so I can run both filters together.

Stupid question. Did you have a deadhead installed?

Hi lenweber,

No, I didnt. I was originally trying to run the YH through an external filter I got off Amazon, then the stock external filter, then connected to my 100 cu ft tank.

I switched the filter order to now run from YH to the stock filter, then through the 3rd party external filter, then to my tank. This creates a tighter seal for me. I'm just waiting on the connectors I need.

Pizzaman, did you ever get your compressor going?

jking

Thanks for checking in! No, not yet. I had to wait until I could get a new 1/8 female quick connect (which I got in the mail today). I checked all my connections and a couple of them seemed loose. I don't think all the threads were the same between my Yong Heng parts and the hoses that came with my external filter. The new connectors fit much more snug and I'm hoping it's going to create a tight seal. I'm gonna try to fire this thing up tomorrow (or the weekend) and will let you know if it works. Fingers crossed!

Success!! I was FINALLY able to get my Yong Heng to build pressure and topped off my 100 cu ft tank from about 3500 to 4300 psi in less than 15 minutes!

I was running the stock external small filter and another larger filter that I bought on amazon. I found a connection on the 2nd filter was leaking so I took the whole thing off and ran it with just the stock filter. I was a bit worried about moisture, but at this point I was too anxious to see if it would work. It worked fine. I'm still going to try to fix the connection on the 2nd filter, but I think I'm comfortable running it with just the stock filter for now. It's not humid at all where I live and seems to work okay.

Thank everyone for your help!
