Where does the temperature probe go to measure the head temperature?

I removed the case cover to change the batteries and it just appeared to be hanging freely in space above the electric motor?

Small hole, facing rear, on large lower ring of aluminum "tophat," on top of compressor. WM

The probe doesn't fit in that hole.

I guess I can either enlarge the home or just clip it to that area of the cylinder.

Never heard of one not fitting, metal probe usually slips in easily. Possible something stuck in hole? Think I'd take a drill bit that fits and slowly rotate by hand to see if hole clear. Probe should be round.

Just tried it again, doesn't fit.

I probed the hole and it is about as deep as length of the round metal probe tip.

I'm going to hand turn a proper size drill bit into it to remove any burrs, etc?

Here's mine, fully inserted, partially inserted. Possible my metal probe tip is stuck in hole, can't recall exactly how it was, think that's part of the metal tip sticking out. Round, black probe end slides in and works. WM

Had to remote mount my digital temp display because unable to read on top of compressor, that's why black wire is heading up.

Ran a new 5/32" drill bit in it by hand. Then ran it on low speed using a battery drill and "wobbled" it around a little to bore/enlarge the hole just a little.

It now fits tightly!

I dont know if anyone else does this or not, but i applied a bit of thermal paste on the probe like the one used for cpu heatsink.
