Yong heng mystery

I finally got my new compressor going thanks to Bowhunter73 sending me a relief valve collar. Yesterday I was finally able to shoot my hatsan flashpup until this mystery occurred in my compressor.

I filled my gun from dead empty the first time to 200 bar in less than ninety seconds. I thought that was impressive for a china compressor then I shot the gun until it was at 100 bar and I cranked the compressor back up once again and topped the gun off to 200 bar in no time flat to finish zeroing in my scope. Now I'm thinking we're finally rockin and rollin with this thing. I go back for the third top off and crank the compressor back up then realize the compressor is only pumping 20 bar on the gauge and it will not top my gun off.

Here's what I've done so far. I've checked for leaks and found none. I plugged my hose and run the compressor up to its max 20 bar and shut it off and it holds that 20 bar for hours with no leak down until I open the relief valves. Burst disc was good but I put a new one in anyway. I removed all check valves and they all are clean and look new. I removed head and cylinder. Pistons and rings are like new with no scoring or defects that can be seen. I cleaned all reed valves and checked all O rings. I checked every port and hose for obstructions and all were open. All lines are open and clean as well.

This compressor worked flawless for the first three minutes and then decided to take a dump right in the middle of some long awaited shooting. I always open the relief valves before start up and before I cut it off. The compressor has never gotten over 97 degrees due to my cooling system so heat didn't play a part in this.

I've been a heavy equipment mechanic with my own service truck for 30 years and this little rascal has got me stumped.

Have you checked the filter between the compressor and your Airgun, I had a problem with mine leaking just enough it wouldn't fill my air tank it would build up pressure to a certain point and then quite filling also check the burst disc fitting, use a soap and water spray to check for leaks around the fittings if you haven't done that already.

I've checked for leaks and found none. I plugged the hose and run the compressor and it only built 20 bar on the compressor gauge then I shut the compressor off while leaving the relief valves closed and the compressor holds that pressure and does not leak down. I sprayed all the fittings, head and cylinder with soapy water and found no leaks. It's performs like it has a scored cylinder or bad piston ring but they look like new.

Wish you were closer we could try taking parts off my parts compressor to find what's needed to fix yours

I got it figured out. The lower reed valve had rotated somehow. Now she pumping good again. Somehow I feel like this compressor is refurbished or a customer return. The motor was caked with dust and the motor housing is rusty like its sat in a basement or shed.

The flashpup is topped off and here's my first two shots after sighted in. This thing is a tack driver with air arms diablo field pellets.

Daddyrabbit,

Congratulations on solving problem. Would you consider sharing how this Yong Heng came to your possession? Was thinking if a bad actor is out there trying to pass refurbished, returned or used units off as new, maybe members would like to know. Thanks

I bought it on ebay. The seller name is easybuyyyy. They had several compressors a couple of months ago but not any now. It shipped from Chino California so I'm sure it came from a port Warehouse.

That compressor is chugging along nicely and everything is beautiful in airgun land or so I dreamed. After the second fill today my new flashpup is puking air from the fill port after I remove the fill probe. I can fill it to 200 bar and sit it on the bench and the gun is completely empty in 3 or 4 minutes just sitting.

The up side is I won't have to drain the tank before I pull it. The down side is I wasn't really wanting to get that intimate with my new gun yet. We've only been out a couple of times and I was looking forward to courting her and getting to know her a little better before I strip her down.

Sounds like it could have been a fell off the truck type is issue.

Daddyrabbit,

Sorry to hear of the latest calamity, you seem to be too much of a stand up guy to be going thru so much grief. Thanks for sharing seller's name, "easybuyyy" will not be on my preferred seller's list. You shared, on an earlier thread, of a top brass coolant fitting in too far and aluminum shavings in brass pressure relief fittings. If this is the same machine you reported, with rusty motor housing and dust-caked motor, something just isn't right. Possibly failed QC at factory, set aside, with others, for parts, then all purchased by easybuyyy. I hope this compressor has not caused problem with one-way valve in tank. Might be a hopeless effort, but I'd sure try to get easybuyyy to make it right. Wishing you best of luck, with everything.

They did try to send me the part but sent the wrong part even though I sent them a clear picture of the part I needed. The wrong part arrived in five days post marked from china. I've never seen anything come from china to georgia in five days. They must have shot the package out of a cannon clear across the pond to get here that fast.

The flashpup is driving tacks once again. I tried blowing the fill port out with 220 pounds of air but it didn't help. I pulled the fill valve and there was a tiny speck of o ring stuck to the valve seat. I also found two small chunks in the tank as well. Cleaned it and put her back together and all is well. That crosman squirrel target is catching hell today to put it lightly.

Congratulations on latest repair, sounds like you're on a roll. Five days shipping from China, more like 5 months! I smell a rat, that's for sure. As far as the source of O ring pieces, assuming fill probes' are OK, first stage compressor piston has standard rings, but I'm not sure what those 3 "rings" are on the second stage, pencil sized, piston that sticks out of center of main piston. On my Chinese hand pump, the second stage rod has an O ring, but that's all I can speak to. Nobody is hoping more for smooth sailing, from here on in, for you, than me.
