Yong Heng gauge issue

There is no greater teacher than experience. "Book smarts" are all well and good but will always take a back seat to knowledge gained by "doing". Over 30yrs of working in various fields of mechanics, plumbing, and automotive (and 8+yrs HPA) taught me that.

Also, trying to have a discussion with someone who is incapable of consideration for a viewpoint other than that of their own is pointless.

I agree. Theory suggests teflon tape shouldn't be used for parallel thread sealing. No question. But it worked. Temporarily (several tank top offs). If I had wanted to PERMANENTLY plug that gauge port, I would have sourced a bolt with a head to have on hand BUT I probably would have left the tefloned plug in place AS LONG AS IT WORKED. But a nylon washer or dowty under a bolt would be a better long term solution.

check this out .. i filled my gauge with 30W silicone shock oil ... after noticing it vibrating terribly at higher pressure i figured it wont last long, i had the silicone oil onhand so decided to try it .. the screws on the bottom will leak and so it will around the wire also so it needs to be sealed well with silicone gasket maker or something similar FIRST by backing the screws out (dont remove them both at the same time) and getting gasket glue around them good, then pull the wire around and use a small tool or toothpick to work the gasket maker around the wire then let dry for 24 hours before filling .. that should hold well .. i let it sit upside down and everything for a long time and it doesnt leak anywhere else but the wire and the 2 screws on the back .. time will tell if vibration will cause it to fail, really my mistake was finding out 'after' i filled it that it leaked .. i cleaned it up best i could around the problem areas with acetone, but i have a feeling it would be much better if sealed first and allowed to cure fully .. so ... just a experiment .. if it works the gauge will likely last a lot longer with lube/damping in it ...
