Yong Heng cooling tips & tricks

Hi All,

I just recently ordered a Yong Heng and hope to get it soon (delivery has been delayed though, not surprisingly)

Do any of you use anything other than water (or ice water) to cool your compressors? I saw a couple threads here and I think some guys were running anti-freeze? or some other additives... But I'm not sure if this helps keep the temperature down, or if I'm better off sticking with a couple of frozen water bottles in a bucket of water.

Thanks

About a half a 5 gal bucket of water and ice helps keep it cool, haven't tried anti freeze. I also bought a wet/tile saw pump (ryobi) at home depot as the factory pump I got was un reliable. A thin (1/4 inch) rubber mat to set the machine on helps with the vibration and check the bolts are tight as they can also vibrate loose. mine lasted 2 years before I got a new bigger machine. BTW I was toping off a 106 cu/ft bottle and running the machine 30 minutes straight.

I just use a 5 gallon bucket half full of water and add a bunch of cold/freezer packs to it. And I usually only go about 8-10 minutes at a time and then let it cool a bit. If you are doing just the gun tank, that's more than enough time. If you are doing a scuba tank, it will take a couple runs. I know others go 15-20 minutes, but I'd rather take the extra time and not risk it. I've seen others say the coolant/antifreeze is just overkill and doesn't really help much considering the limited time frame of use.

I put a couple of half gallon milk jugs full of ice in my two to three gallon bucket and that is enough for my 20 minutes of run time. I change the water every couple of months so it does not grow algae stuff in it. Keep your water supply at the same height as your compressor to make it easier on the pump. Keep your tank or gun above your compressor to keep moisture out.

Thanks, Sonny. That's good to hear, as I'll be filling up a 100 cu/ft tank as well.

That's a sweet set up. I'm still trying to scope out my space but I like how simple this is.

go to napa or amazon or any auto parts store . buy some stuff called engine ice its pre mixed will lower tems 10 to 15 degrees no ice to screw around with my machine was running 48celcius I think as long as I ran it. 20 minutes then leave pumps on then whatever else it takes to fill you tank works very well redline water weter is great also

Great tip! Thank you! I'm going to grab some of this stuff...

The truth is a faster flow rate is better for heat removal. The heat transfer rate is roughly proportional to the temperature difference between the average temperature of the coolant going through the pump and the average pump temperature. Put another way, the heat transfer rate between two objects is best when the temperature difference is greater. As you increase the flow rate of the coolant, the exit temperature of the coolant from the pump drops.

Before I bought a better air compressor, I ran my Yong Heng with a picnic cooler as a reservoir and a faster pump. No ice was used in this setup. If I needed to top off more than one or two bottles, water was let out off the cooler drain and replaced with fresh cold water. The cooler I use is one of those sold by Costco with a handle on the back and two large wheels. It also doubles as a storage container for the Yong Heng after it dries out.

Thanks for this tip. Do you mix it with tap or filtered water and what is the ratio?
