Yong Heng compressor question

i had a yong heng compressor for several years and it worked great for my needs until it broke down the other day . i watched a few videos of people who tear down there yong heng compressors because they broke or for whatever reasons . there was a video that showed how the water was making the aluminum inside where the water runs through the heads started to flake or break down inside . he said the water is what caused this to flake or break down . is there any type of additive to add to the water to prevent the aluminum from breaking down ? i was thinking instead of using water can you run a premixed antifreeze that has been chilled like in your refrigerator or freezer ? maybe this way the yong heng would last longer . do you think a premix antifreeze would work ?

Edit;

What that video shows is mineral deposits from the well water he is using in it. Plain water cools better than antifreeze. But antifreeze has the needed additives in it to stop most corrosion, and lubricate as well, so it is mixed 50/50 in cars. The additives are needed to prevent boiling and freezing as well.

There are studies around that show distilled water can cause a more rapid removal of aluminum from surfaces exposed to it than plain filtered water. Yet some manufactures recommend it.

You see what high mineral well water does.

I just ran plain tap water, as in our area it is very soft and mineral free, until I had an algae growth problem, then I added some water wetter, some months back, although the verdict on that is still out as It needs a couple more months to be a good test. But it is good for three months anyway. Still it is no longer crystal clear.

So, not knowing all I would probly just use the "Water Wetter" I am using or a watered down version of the 50/50 antifreeze if I was overly concerned about the damage to the aluminum surfaces in the compressor.

Be careful what water you use in your Yong Heng for cooling as water that is very purified like reverse osmosis water, distilled water, and de-ionized water have all or nearly all minerals removed causing the water to become aggressive. When you remove most or all of the total dissolved solids from the water it can begin to eat away at any metals it comes in contact with, the reason for R/O units using all plastic tubing and fittings. I have 40 years of plumbing and water treatment experience behind me so I'm not speaking out my ...... If available to you I would recommend running soft water through your system along with water wetter, in this case you have removed the bulk of the scale causing minerals, but haven't made the water so pure as to cause erosion.

This is good advice. Thanks.
