YH help needed - high side black ring over green oring installation?

Well I bought 2 YH so that I could have one working while the other was down for repairs. That's blown up in my face apparently. One starting making very slow high pressure and then other one just made a terrible noise and I watched the crank case split in half.

So I'm working on the one with the slow fill issue, get the cylinder heads off and order a complete piston piece from ebay. Go to install it and see it's the one with the split rings while mine has the black rings over the green o-ring setup. The high side piston is too wide to fit into the cylinder head - just great!

I pull out the extras that came with the compressor and start the removal of the black plastic rings and orings. I get the new green o-rings in place but I'll be damned as to how to get the black plastic rings in place.

I've tried heating them in boiling water for 5 minutes but they don't soften up one bit. How have you gotten the plastic rings in place without tear, stretching or deforming them?

Could really use some help here as this is clearly just not my week for mechanical stuff.

I saw somewhere a guy put them in boiling water to make them more pliable. I tried, it didnt work for me. I ended up buying the piston from aliexpress.

Looking around for found that the top of the pisto unscrews making one ring east to change. But doesn’t help with the other.

Was able to take the piston from the YH that cracked and use that for now.

So fed up with cheap Chinese junk. Alkin on the way.

Note for those considering an Alkin that I spoke with them and 10% price increase coming in a month if you are on the fence.

Should've done this a long time ago. Very frustrating to not know when a compressor will break. And general mean time between failure on a YH seems to be in the range of 5-8 hours. I think I've gone through 3 YH, a big Air Ventura brick, a Shoebox F10 and an Altaros Booster.

Best bang for the buck was the Shoebox. Got 400+ hours out of it and at the end of its life I could tell if I had fed it drier air it would've lasted much longer.

Nothing wrong with the Altaros but it used a lot of air not having any motor.

I way too lazy to drag the YH to the swimming pool for the cool water. So there was no way I was going to make ice or buy it to keep the YH cool. I may have 2 hours on it before I got my bauer. It's the lower voltage 110 unit so it's a bit slow compared to the YH but I can run it past 5k without issue with heat and it is air cooled. Also quiet enough you can carry a conversation if you needed to without screaming.
