YH compressor questions

Just got a new YH compressor. I ran it 4 times no load to seat the rings and a bit of a break in. I do have a question about temperatures though.

My second stage runs about 45*c no load using a five gallon bucks with 4 frozen bottles of water floating in it. Again no load.. The first stage will run hotter gotten to 65*c in about 3 minutes. I shut it down there because not sure what the temp of the first stage should be or if its that important. Is it really only important to monitor the second stage or is there a temp where the first stage needs to be shut down?

thanks

How are you getting first stage temps? Thermal imaging or do the new ones have a gauge now? I have had mine for three years now, 6 rebuilds and still cooking, mostly top end rebuilds, my new process is no more than 15 min run time and stop at 55 deg c and don’t ever start it with a load on it, I always run a couple hundred psi above the tank pressure before I equalize.

The first stage has steel rings and a cast iron cylinder so it can take much higher temps for longer run times. The second stage has an aluminum, cylinder and composite rings so it needs to be kept within spec. I keep it well under spec and don't take it much over 60C. I just ran my YH for a few minutes to fill my Ninja 90ci tank from 2k to 4k+. The temp on the bottom cylinder head reached 160 deg F, said my fluke IR thermometer, and remained there while the temp on the YH gauge, leveled out at 57 deg C so about 135 deg F. Your newish unit will run a bit warmer until it is broken in.

I have a radiator on my YH so the gauge never goes over 57-60 deg C.

Your temps look close to normal and I would not worry about the first stage temps being what they are.
